What are the best proportions for pots and soil containers?

I notice most pots are a bit taller than they are wide. Some have a 'square' cross section - they are as wide as they are tall. Pots for trees are very tall and narrow. I have only seen a few pots that are wider than they are tall.

Any ideas on the best proportions for MJ?

Personaly, I dont like tall. I have difficulty watering them properly.

Root go deeper than they do wide. I keep my pots in that fashion like most are made. They all seem to be made that way too!
