I want to take better pix. What tech spex should I be looking for in a camera? I'm not looking to buy a DSLR with a macro lens or anything like that. I want a simple pocket camera that can do close up shots. Thanks.

it depends on what your taking pics of. if your just taking pics of your crop i would reccommend any camera over 3.0 megapixels. if you want to take close up shots that show tricombs and show all the color detail then you going to have to get one of the cheap new nikkons. they just started making affordable models for people who aren't professional photographers. happy growing my friend

Yes the Nikon S8100 is definitely a wise choice. Here are some pic's using that camera.

Another option that it slightly cheaper in the Canon SX130IS. The only thing I didn't like about this camera is that it runs on AA batteries which can go out fast unless you buy the re-chargeable NiCad batteries which is why I went with the Nikon 8100. I am happy with my purchase and ease of use.

Thanks T Ray. I was going to ask if that camera supported close-up pix, then I saw your shots - question answered. Thanks!

Can you point me towards this SuperSoil discussion, that looks interesting.

Yeah go to https://www.rollitup.org/subcools-old-school-organics/ which is Subcool's own Sub-forum.

It's well worth your time. Read all his stuff (He has videos on youtube + threads on many sites online). Just google what you looking for and subcool's name and/or Supersoil b/c it probably has been answered somewhere on the WWW by Sub himself.

The camera does get very nice close shots. You can get in up to 1cm / .4 inches. I am overall very happy with my purchase of the Nikon S8100. And I had really never once taken photo's before. I mean other than with a disposable.

Here are the actual sites, but you mine as well Bookmark that Sub-Forum.

I highly suggest to read them all the way through. I know it takes a long time, but you will pretty much understand everything if you take the time.

Thanks, T Ray.

Also - I was all set to get the S9100 - S8100 with a bit more - but the Amazon reviews were full of reports of that camera freezing up, requiring reset by pulling the battery, this seems to occur multiple times. I guess it never pays to be the pioneer and buy the new model. I'm going to check out the S8100 again.
