Usually algae is slimy and either green or black

It will be slimmy color differs. But a good sign is if it smells like a dirty fish tank.

I think i had a little bit of algae in my reservoir from the superthrive i put in there. i cleaned and replaced my reservoir and flushed the plants with water a little but not much. Do you think that caused a problem?

algae can be brown too. I know Algae needs light* to grow, so if that's the issue you must be having light getting in the tank.

Superthrive can do it. It has in the past. But not always. So don't give up just yet
