I went to the hydro shop today to buy some T5's and came out with a highly recommended bottle of overdrive. It's highly fucking expensive I might add!!! lol. So being a conservative (cheap) kinda guy I added 50 ml to a 100L res and you can imagine my surprise when my PH dropped from 5.8ish to 4 ahhh! Also my ec went from 1.2 to 1.45. Does anyone know why this happened and yes I am draining the res tonight as I'm thinking the girls will get a tad upset living in acid lol.

Thats why tthey make ph up and down, so you can adjust ph after adding to the res.

Ah, no, this would be why common sense comes into play with anything! If his PH dropped that much overnight, then his res was "WAY TOO HOT" to begin with! The added nutes to the mix just compounded that in a hurry!

Where does the OP say when he measured his PH? Certainly not overnight and measured the next day like you implied ^Slanty. He said "I went to the hydro shop today"

this would be why common sense comes into play with anything! If his PH dropped that much overnight, then his res was "WAY TOO HOT" to begin with! The added nutes to the mix just compounded that in a hurry!

Ok guys it was a newb mistake. And yes I'm a newb!! My level hose had somehow got an airlock (I guess????)and the level had not changed. I just did a refill late sunday and the girls have been thirsty. They had drank pretty much the whole res in 3.5 days, I usually refill every 7 days. So yes I was adding to basically 15 L of water.... christ!!!! Thanks all!!! Next time I'll check before adding the nutes lol. In my defence I was excited. Does using overdrive actually help or have I wasted yet more money on stuff??? Plants seem to be doing well BTW perhaps a little behind schedule but coming along nicely. Thanks for the quick responces, I do love hydro though... screw it up and drain it lol.

Look. I posted what is relative to his situation. If his PH dropped that much, then his res has way too much in it, PERIOD! Sorry that I assumed that it was overnight, and not instantly. Woohoo!?

Thanks Slanty. You were spot on with what happened BTW. What is the difference between taking the PH reading that night or the next morning I wonder? I think it would have been the same would it not? And yes I should have checked the water levels (nutes and PH) before adding the stuff!!! Opps!!!! that won't happen again. I am only on my 5th tray doing hydro so have a lot to learn lol. I just dont get all of the negativity on the site from some people. I know it can be frustrating at times answering the same newb questions over and over again but if it is a bother to get involved then why do it? Again thanks for the help. And thankfully I did check things more closely before adding up, my PH is the biggest challenge I have due to well water having buffers.

Yes, but that wasn't the problem. I didnt check the PH of the res before adding it and it had probably already started to drop before I added the stuff. And yes the helpful people do out number the dicks but what I dont understand is why the need to be a dick. And I do let it roll but I still feel the need to say something, I can't help it its my nature lol.

I will! It will be hard to compare as I vegged my first run of White Russian and this one was flowered from seed. Its gonna be about half of my first yield as far as I can tell, unless this overdrive is amazing shit lol!!!

That overdrive is hit or miss in my books I dont use it because ive seen it take buds the wrong way...what i mean is thhey get bigger but loose density kinda fluff up and get airy diff strains will have diff results so if you have luck with it good deal never hurts to try waterdawg...some companys use alot of ph buffer in thier nutes to help us out so when you use a new product always start out at 50% min i go 25% first day 50% for 3 and if things look good you can go 100% but honestly most boosters you can use 50% and get safe good results...Keep up the good work glad to see your trying new things OFTR...

She's quite the learning curve for sure waterdawg! Hydro that is...Learning from your mistakes and taking notes will go a long way into clarifying how things work exactly. You got it right though, when in doubt...flush it out..."

Thats the beauty of hydro. Find a schedule that works and double check everything. A couple of meters go a long way in helping also. PPM an Ph are what you need to concern yourself with and they allow you instant knowledge of what actually is going on.

Any question will bring the vultures out. Its not hard to figure out which ones...get used to it...Admin does nothing until someone complains, then instead of investigating they just ban everyone!

Best off to just ignore the ignorant.
