Its that time of year. Almost the end of April and time to get started. This is my first grow and as we all know spring is the time of rain. So, if it rains should i not water my plants that day. Or wat if it rains really hard all day, should i not water for a few days? This is my first grow and I'm just putting my seeds in Dixie cups now til' they sprout. Other wise without rain I will be watering twice a day. Does this seem right? I have done my research and cant find anything about the rain. So please help. Thanks A lot! Good luck to all in this season.

if the plant looks dry and the pot that its in is light, then it needs water.simple as that!

Okay, here is a very easy method I use each and every grow. Always keep a dry EXTRA container filled with the same soil nearby. Keep that pot dry. The weight of the plant isn't all that much and you won't need this more than a month.
When you soak your pot, pick it up after and get a feel for the weight. then pick up the dry one and feel the difference. After a bit you won't need the dry pot...you'll just know.... :peace:

If you plant them in the ground or in a big bucket,i would let them go till the soil is dry 2 knuckles deep.Stick your finger in the soil till you have it in the soil to the second knuckle of your first finger.if the soil is dry water them.
If you are planting your plants in big buckets, make sure you have drain holes in the bottom of the bucket.Watering your plants twice a day will drown them, more people kill their plants by overwatering them.
To keep from having to water your sprouts everyday, poke holes in the bottom and sides of the cup near the bottom, and set the cups in a pan with a quarter inch of water in the bottom. Then refill the pan when it gets low.OPH

rain is part of growing outdoors. Just visit your plants like 3 days after youve had some good rain. Probably even longer with soil, i grow in coco.
good luck mate

rain is the best thing for your plant..you already got the advise i was going to give ya..like crackerjacks did...
if ya want, since this is your first grow and depending on how far the location is that you have to visit them..
go to walmart and get one of those blown glass funnels(garden section)..u put it in your soil, its shaped like a funnel..big end up...fill it with water..the plant will use the water when it needs it..plus if it rains it will catch the rain water and you wwont have to check on her for another 3 days..it works...

Ignore the first reply since the member said go by pot weight and you are talking about growing outside in the soil, correct?

The second post can be ignored too since it doesn’t matter if rain water is good or not because unless you are going to build a dam around your plants and cover them so when it rains no rain water can get to them it will happen and good or bad you cannot stop it, it will happen.

The next message does make a point though I doubt you will care for it much.

The following reply does make some sense but really the easiest thing is to learn to read your plants. If they have enough moisture, and of course also light, the leaves will stand up firm and proud like a teenage girls tits and if they lack water, or of course light, the leaves will sag like an old woman’s tits.

The next reply is valid enough in theory but it does not allow for the fact that Mother Nature will do her thing when she wants to and not when you want to so it is not like in the rainy season you can let the soil get dry before watering again. The most you can do is to try to do as he mentioned.

The following message is meaningless to you.

The next one again makes sense and is pretty much what I said in that all you can do is attempt to do as the previous decent information said to do.

The nest one is possibly accurate but not necessarily so. Depending where you live you can have acid rain and a lot of pollutants and heavy metals in the rain water so it could be good and it could not be good. At a time rainwater was great but that is not always the case today but again when growing outside you do not have the option to turn off Mother Natures tap so you have to take what she gives and deal with whatever might possibly come from it.

The key is to get to the point where you and your plant are in synch with each other. Once you are you will water that plant before any noticeable outward signs shows itself, such as leaf droop. You don't ever want to see leaf droop, just get slightly ahead of it. I find each plant to be different and each grow to be different. I don't water my plants all at once because some need it and some don't. You'll get a feel for it. :peace:
