What is a good brand of Organic soil and plant food?

Right now I'm growing in MG all purpose potting soil, but when they are ready I plan to cut and grow clones in organics and DWC, my question is, what is the best brand of organic soil and liquid plant food? I heard that MG Organic Soil kills MJ plants and I'm not experienced enough to mix my own.
 
there are many bagged organic soils out there. some more commonly known and available are Fox Farms (Happy Frog, Light Warrior, Ocean Forest), Roots Organic, Bio Bizz, and Sanctuary Soil's Empire Builder (which I am currently using and loving) not sure if that is readily available yet- but it is in CA... don't know too much about liquid nutes to be honest but i am using General Organics GO line right now and having good results...alot of people seem to be loving the GO lately
 
The MG doesnt kill your bud plants its just that its not good to flower a plant in that shit and some strains it will burn the shit out of. I like the roots organic soil but i wouldnt reccomend planting seedlings in it i have had it burn my plants especially the stuff in stores right now cause its pretty hot in a few months it wont be as hot and you could probably plant seeds in it. It all depends on what kinda medium you want to use a soil less medium like coco works great i like the royal gold basement mix it works pretty good ive used it a few times i just actually bought a bag today from the hydro store cause i planted a young mkage in the roots and it burnt the shit out of it. I also like the PRO Mix HP its pretty good stuff cause its got the Mykos in it. You just wanna stay away from all that hot stuff you get at walmart like the MG always check the back of the bag for the NPK ratio.
 
If you spent any money on seeds or clones your gonna wanna go with a lighter mix at first until your plants get used to the nutrient rich soil. Cause like me that MKage that got burned was a freebie and wasnt such a big deal but now that the rest of the seeds i payed a good bit of money for i dont wanna have any burning or any of that with them you know.
 
Hi RP. Give yourself some credit, you can mix your own soil. Confidence in yourself in your grow room and good advice will take you a long way fast. :bigjoint:

As far as bagged organic soils go, I would use Fox Farms soils since you don't have a lot of experience. Almost anyone will recommend these as great soils to ANYONE, especially someone just getting into growing.

FF Light Warrior is good for seed starting. Then I would recommend you pick up 1 bag of Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil, 1 bag of Fox Farm Happy Frog soil, and 1 bag of loose coco. Mix all three together and you're good. You can add some extra mycos to it, there are lots of different myco products at the grow store.

As for organic nutrients, I would recommend General Organics line. It's easy to use and get's great results. Then once you have some more experience you could switch to using Bio-Canna nutes if you want your pot to taste a little better, but using this line requires a little more patience and experience to get good results.

Mixing your own soil is really easy though. There are a lot of good mixes on this site, and the include the amounts of everything, so all you have to do is buy the stuff and mix it. Try the super soil mix, or if you want a nice "animal by-product free" mix I can give you mine.

Im running Fox Farm Ocean Forest and the General O GO line also. I love the the GO line very good stuff from what ive seen... Im switching to promix for my next run.
 
Right now I'm using Fox Farm Lite Warrior as my seed starting mix, although I've had great success using Miracle Grow Seed Starting Mix. I like my seeds to start off in one gallon smart pots then by week 3 or 4 I take them outside, making sure to harden them off over 3-5 days before exposing them to full sunlight. Outside I use raised beds, containers, and I have some plants directly in the ground. I like Kellogg Patio Plus potting mix the best because of how cheap it is. $5 a bag vs $25 of Roots Organic. I still try test out the ocean forest and roots organic soils, particularly in containers where it's cheaper to run them, but I won't ever fill a large raised bed in them, its just way to expensive and the results aren't that much better.

Not sure if they still do, but for a long time Kellogg based out of Ontario, California was making some of the Miracle-Gro Organic potting mix for Scotts. For what you pay for MG organic I think it's a bit of a rip off. Yeah it's certified organic, but there is hardly anything good in it. Scott will only say it's made from natural slow and fast release fertilizers which doesn't tell you anything. It won't kill a mature plant, it's perfectly safe to use when transplanting, but there are better choices for organic gardeners.
 
I personally just started using the lite warrior and love it STAY AWAY FROM JIFFY SEED STARTER MIX!!!! Shit sucks!!

support your local nursery and grab a bag of their organic soil, bag of peat, some promix and yummy ammenities for your plants, mix and wait and WALA better than anything you could buy and you get to learn your soil and plants better! :)

On the Contrary about MG organic soil killing plants.... My last batch of soil mix I used 10 bags of miracle grow organic potting mix just to try it out and once mixed and cooked I can't tell a difference between that and any other organic mix from the store. I've had about 12plants or so run successfull on my soil mix made with MG organic soil. But there are better soils to use as a base for your mix.
 
I'm using roots organic soil by aurura this time, so far so good, great aireation and drainage. I use smart pot so I have to keep a close I on overdrying the soil. I picked up some gardeners gold by mastery nursery for $9 cu/ft. My tomatoes love it, dark rich clean soil all organic and phd @6.8.
 
Try vital earth og, just add some perlite to the mix and maybe some dolomite lime, so far I'm loving vital earth and their nutes, also they are environmentally conscious and pay fair wages to the workers

Personally I prefer the Roots 707 mix over the original potting soil mix when using fabric pots. I use both smart and root pots and like to run a bit heavier mix in them so I will not be watering so often that it gets to be a chore. The 707 has similar amendments just about half the pumice and perlite. Less aggregate is a good thing for fabric containers IMO. I think it comes out to the same price too the 707 just comes in big 3 cu ft bags. One thing that is great about fabric pots (other than the superior root networks they create via air pruning to stimulate root branching) is that they save labor for newer growers; you don't have to cut in 20% perlite into the bagged mixes anymore to get the containers to dry out right.

All the roots soils I've ever run smelled and worked great, even the hot stuff that had a slight manure scent to it. My microbes help stabilize everything for me as well, AACT IMO is better that the powdered products (shop for whole spore over propagule) but use whatever you have at every transplant and once in mid bloom, present the herd organic inputs via your mix/liquids and you will have tasty organic meds come harvest!
 
I like Fox Farm Ocean forest...Ph range 6.3 to 6.8
You will have less of a issue with just paying the extra money.
Nutes...go organic

I've already noticed how much more I'm watering compared to the ffof and I'm just 26 days in. I couln't get my hands on the 707, the original was available and I wanted to try something new. Like I said I like ffof, but I'm going to have to grab some 707 now knowing it's not as a thin.
 
I have a secrect....... but dont tell anybody because I have DANK weed and I used Mirical grows organic choice garden soil, mixed with vermiculite , perlite, kelp meal, and guanos, feed a couple times with Botnacares Bloom and liqid karma. and mollassas. with some MYCO's when i flower them

all the kelloggs products are OMRI listed and they are a fraction of the cost of FF $7 for 3cuft bag i love these products i dont buy FF an more i just mix up my own
 
That N'Rich is some good stuff! Haven't used it for mj yet, but I mixed some in with some old soil in a barrel and that squash is almost twice the size of the other 3 I planted from the same 6 pack. It has all the right stuff in it.
 
For seedlings / clones, use something that is a light feeding soil like Lightwarrior or sunshine mix...

When you are ready for a richer soil you really can't go wrong with any of the prebagged premium soils at the stores (Foxfarm ocean forest, Roots organic.. etc) Most of these soils are pretty good nutrition for your plant and don't need a lot of extra nutritional attention throughout your grow.

I have pulled my highest gpw (gram per watt) on the cheap Kelloggs patio plus soil you can get at the Homedepot for 5 a bag (it requires perlite by the way) cut with perlite and a little coco to make it look and feel more like the Fox Farm and Roots organic.

Innoculate your roots early with the proper mycorrhizae whatever you do. The store bought soil will not create the healthy microbial environment as quickly as if you apply a mycorrhizae product yourself to the roots of your plant.
