What is the best fan set-up?

I am starting a 4'x4'x6.5 grow tent and want to know a good way to circulate air without spending big bucks on inline fans. If anyone knows what I could set up or any good sites to look at, please let me know! Thanks!!

Best way is an inline fan. You could use inline duct fans or high cfm pc fans but when you put a carbon filter on it, that will restrict cfm's pretty bad. Honestly, it's best just to save up for a inline fan.

I got mine for 129 off ebay. That included 16' of ducting an a huge 18" carbon filter. I think I spent more on pc fans and home made carbon filters for my cfl closet grow last year.

valuline 6" fans are 435 cfm and very affordable they are the best bang for the buck out there. if you want more power their 8" does 735cfm and isn't much more expensive. without a good inline in that tent you are gonna have a lot of humidity so you should just bite the bullet and do it right the first time to avoid issues later

damnitttt haha. ok i gues im going with the inline fan then. You're right, i want to do it the right way the first time around. Appreciate the advice and help.

What would the nest set up be for the fan though? Would it be better to set it up on the bottom intake of the tent or the lower one?

IMO, you only need an exhaust fan. You don't need an intake fan if you light leak proof your tent(if light doesn't escape air won't). That way you will have enough negative pressure to suck air in from outside. So all you would need is an intake port at the bottom of the tent and the exhaust at the top.

i agree negative pressure is best in a tent have the fan up in the corner a valueline 8" would be ideal if your tent has 8" holes for fans that way you are exchanging air very rapidly. they are like 100 something bucks not that bad

but then how would new fresh air be exchanged into the tent? dont the plants need new air?

go to my currrent grow thread. It's pretty simple once you see the setup.

cool air comes in through the bottom, the fan is pulling it in, hits the carbon filter and exhausts through the top, rinse and repeat. Most put a little oscillating fan inside the tent to promote stronger stem and have air flowing over the leaves when it starts to fill up the tent.

ya another hole is left open in the bottom the fan exhausting air will create negative pressure forcing air in from outside through the lower hole. an ocillating fan is a must in that tent to keep air moving and prevent mold/mildew
