What is up with Fla?

First of all, I've been reading the site for awhile now and finally registered.

anyway, This state has the most ridiculous mj laws in the US and while other states are relaxing and decriminalizing Fla increased the penalties for possession and cultivation, now 25 plants will make you a trafficker as opposed to the old law where it was at least 300 plants.

The really sad thing is there is an organization that got the ok to get the signatures on a petition for legalizing MM on the 2010 ballot and all they had to do was get 670,000 signatures and they only managed 70,000.

8 out of every 10 people I know smoke, there should have been no problem collecting 670,000 signatures in the whole state. They had a petition on the website, instead of just making an online petition, you have to download it , sign and mail it in. Most people dont want to bother to take the time to do all of that so they skip it.

They really need to change the laws and get rid of the holier than thou representatives who make the laws here. For example, I looked up the senator who represents my district and he happens to be the some guy who introduced a bill to "forbid Florida retailers from selling a list of pipes — including any made of metal, wood, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic or ceramic — unless 75 percent of their sales are tobacco." it was approved 16-0 and odds are the people who approved the bill have no clue what they are either. How do you write your Senator urging support for MM when this is the guy you have to contact? it's pointless.

For those in Fla, there is a guy running for senate this year and if you like Ron Paul, you'll like this guy too. He's Libertarian and he's ex USMC, for personal freedoms, less government etc etc..his name is Alexander Snitker, he has met the ballot requirements to run for the U.S. Senate, the first Libertarian candidate in Florida's history to do so.

So get off your ass and go vote in Nov, if you do nothing you can expect more of the same in Fla.

Sorry for the rant for my very first post, didn't mean to make it sound like a political commercial or anything but we need to make a change.

A fellow Fla resident here and i have to agree, im very disappointed in the way fla has been handling our laws, 25 or more plants here will get you a MMS of 3 years, how the hell do they justify this bullshit? Glad im not the only floridian thats pissed off

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? I think Florida is uber conservative for a couple of reasons: First, their tourist trade depends on the idea that Florida is the number 1 family friendly place to bring your kids and grandma to and all have fun. However, I think it's a bit hypocritcal of them. Any so-called "bad" habit such as cigarettes, alcohol, and pot carry a stigma with them, but Florida is more lenient with alcohol than their neighbor, Georgia. Georgia is almost entirely a dry county, yet lots of residents will cross into Florida to buy a six-pack come Sunday as they still sell. Even Disney land offers mom and dad a chance to sip on a cocktail while the kiddies play. Second, it's basically a giant retirement village run by Jeb Bush. Actually, nix the first reason. The second pretty much explains it all.

Maybe by the time the Woodstock generation make it into their Golden Years, Florida voters will be a little more open minded about things.

Florida has to be tough as it is the 1st stop for a lot of drugs that enter the country. Florida is one of our countries most beautiful places. If that means I can't grow a big garden of dope and get away with it so be it! It's well worth it to me. I smoke and I grow but I am real about it ok. Mj is a drug... There is nothing good about legalization if you ask me. The value of what we all like about Mj will be gone, making it cheap and easy to get means all of our big fancy crops are now worthless! If it is medical your after, studies show that although THC has medicinal value, actually smoking pot exposes your body to more harmful results than the effect of THC for whatever condition you taking it for. i.e. smoking pot is BAD for you! Soon you will see THC in pill form thus bringing the plant and Medical Mj back to the dark ages as nobody will be legal to grow and the government will say "well if you need THC, here it is in a clean pill form"! Let's not forget our school sytems. Are the youth of America not stupid enough? I mean, have we not seen a dramatic decline in test scores since say the 50's... I really don't think a big fatty before class will help the future generations of our country prepare for the real world... Do you?

I think if all of us in the Mj community were smart, instead of pushing for MJ legalization what we should be pushing for is making alchohol and tobacco illegal! Then watch em sweat, trying to justify why pot is bad and tobacco and alchohol are not. Since I think there is nothing that is more of a kick in the sacks to me than getting busted for being a "pot head" by an alchoholic cop...
