What kind of LED setup would I need?

Iam very new to indoor growing, I have never grown indoors or outdooors. I was about to purchase a HID setup until I found out about LEDs.
I know LEDs are exspensive but the energy savings, the little heat that it gives off and the bulb life(50000hrs) has really attracted me to LEDs.

I did a search, and a lot of stuff I found was about people arguing over how LED sucks and what not. Iam not looking to compare LEDs to HIDs I just want to know what kind of LED setup I will need to obtain the yield I need.

Iam looking for a ball park yield of 4oz *dry* after 8 weeks of flowering. So Iam hoping there are some LED growers on roll it up that can give me the information I need about LED setups.

IMO LED's aren't there yet. Get an HPS and wait a few years till LED's get cheaper and more advanced

Well the people who are using multiple 1000 watt bulbs are getting huge yields. Not all of us will ever need yields like that. So even with LEDs not being able to provide yields that multiple 1000watt bulbs can provide. For some people LEDs will provide enough yield and their benefits of less power consumption, less heat and bulb life is a great fit.

I agree with the other person who said don't waste your time with the cheaper led panels you see on ebay that are using 1/2w LED tech, that so old, and intensity has increase dramatically in the 1w Leds, I have a grow stared with CFL for vegging, and Led for flowering. The panel I will be using is 113, 1 watt Leds. They say these are compareable to a 400w MH or a 500w HPS because they have a higher red concentration of light then blue. These panels are retailing for 500+$ so be ready to spend the money for this newer tech, but know they have a 50,000 hour life span, giving you 10+ years of growing before the intensisty will start to deminish, unlike the HID bulbs that lose intensity after the first grow or two.

The 50,000 hours is the typical warranty on these LED fixtures. They typically last far beyond this period(especially if you keep them cool), but will not have the same rated output as they did initially.

LEDs suck I've seen side by side comparisons,If you want fat dense dank nugs go HID if you want cool stealthy grow with mediocre results go LED.No matter what you choose Good Luck

I had the chance to see a Primary-color T5HO grow yesterday, pure red and blue bulbs. Sorry, LED, you just got knocked the fuck out.

And at first I actually thought I WAS looking at an LED grow, because the entire tent was lit up purple inside. Then I stuck my head into the tent and looked up.

They have Led's that are in a florescent bar type bulb, I thought I was looking at a weird colored florescent tube but it was just the tube with led lights on a board wired inside to fit the original ballasts. Still no were near the intensity that is required to grow a good yeilding plant. Be sure to put the Led lights as close as you can cause they are wide angle lights like 120 degrees so they loose a lot of intensity with distance.

P.S. If you looked directly up at the 120 Watt Led Panels you can cause serious damage to your eyes becarefull. I tried looking at them with a dark pair of sunglasses and I was still squinting.

i have 2 of those 14watt LED panels u c on ebay..had to try..VERY bright..plus 1 65w,and 2 42w cfls...everything seems to b kickin..got 2 Lowryder/ak-47's goin..ocf with the Led's, im not sure of the specs.(lumens.kelvins.etc),but they r RED and BLUE and a mofo.. need sunglasses or ull c spots for hours after lookin at them..heh

LEDs emit specfic wavelength, I have seen a lot of LEDs setup that dont even tell you the wavelength of their lights, or even wat wattage LED bulbs they're using (1watt, 3watt).

The ones that do tell you what wavelength their LED setup targets is not the same wavelength that I look for in a good LED setup that will really boost photosynthetic activity.

Sylvania makes them, along with Philips. They're tough to find - you usuallyhave to order bulk from the manufacturer according to the guy at the Hydro Shop. He was just running a test with them to see f they were worth a damn and he said they beat out his LED grows, so he's going to try advertising them around this area. I might help him spread the word.

Up to 300W in a single bulb, if you go for that sort of thing. They also make HID bulbs with 'enhanced gases' to better tune the spectrum(10-15% is claimed) for plants.

Wonder how they compare to EYE Hortilux.

Green bulbs.... Indeed, those green bulbs are not the ones you were talking about.

I was merely referring to the type, plant specialty bulbs.

Special 'red bulbs' are not needed, 2700k is perfect.
