What percent rh do your jars start out at when curing?

55-65% is supposed to be where you want it according to the guides, but if you start out at 65 it ends up dropping a lot over the next week or so from burping the jars.

I’m thinking jarring it at 70% would probably help. That way by the time I’m past the first week and not opening the jars each day it should be in the cure zone.

basically for you guys that have hygrometers in your jar, what do they read 24 hours after you first jar the bud?

If you jar it, and start out at 65, why are you opening it so much that first week that it drops?

I only burp it if it needs to come down...maybe I am missing something, but I don't see the point in burping my jars several times a day in that first week if my range is where it needs to be.

After I dry, I find it is usually right around 65% so I don't see the point in burping much at all...if it is over 65, I burp it briefly every couple of hours until it is 65 or lower - after that, I only open it long enough to grab a nug.

Burping has to do with releasing gasses that build up due to the changes that are made due to the breakdown of chemical compounds during curing.

This is why you burp once a day for the 1st week to 10 days. Some burb once a day for 2 weeks.

My humidity doesnt drop at the rate where I need to start higher at all.

Depends where you live. If you live in a dry RH environment you want high 60%'s up to 70. If you live in a wet environment then closer to 60%. No right answer really.

Yeah my rh is like 15% usually I think that’s the problem. I started opening them for maybe a minute at most and that’s slowed things down.

Seeing it drop so drastically is the reason I asked, I wasn’t sure if that was normal or not. Even being so dry here I wasn’t expecting that much moisture to get sucked out in just a couple minutes each day.

Smaller cubic feet in the dry area. More stem. Plants bring moisture. Learn to work with nature.

As much as I dont like to do it during cure there is always the interga (my personal favorite) or bovida packs that can help keep it where it needs to be. Or add a leaf or 2 from the plant to the jar. The leaf trick works very well btw.

The rh in Northern California is generally about 30%. I dont seem to have an issue with a major drop in my jars.

I actually have a box of 62% packs I got planning on needing them for long term storage.

adding a fresh bud worked really well when I tried it, just leaving it overnight then taking it out bumped the rh up about 10%. Haven’t tried a leaf but that’s probably a more reasonable amount of moisture than a bud.

All the bud I’ve gotten here either on the street or dispensary has been so dry it crumbles to dust when you break some off so I’m super vigilant about the water content right now.

After finally having fresh weed again I don’t think I can go back to smoking powdered nugs. :wall:

I had read that first week, second week stuff but must have misunderstood the reasoning, thanks for explaining it like that. My weed comes out great and smells amazing but I will give this multiple burping a day thing a try.

I like 50-55% to start. And final cure to just over 50%.
I am slowly moving this way...I find the 60-63% in my curing jars is too wet for my personal liking. I take a bit out and place it into another jar that is not air tight to let it dry a bit before I smoke it. It has been even better this way for me.

Same. I store at 62-64% and I have a smaller jar with a 52% Bovida pack for what im smoking . Draws it down for a nice burn.
