What should I do....?

Alright, I have been yo-yoing through different ideas in the last few days of being a member here on this site.. This is my 'soon to be' set up and info..

4x6 closet
4 plants growing ( Northern Lights )
Hydroponic Ebb & Flow

...
This is the question..

I am on a budget, but both are doable,

Should I veg. with about 8 2700k 60watt CFLs and flower with a 400 watt HPS, or just stick with CLFs through the whole process?

Am I going to be able to grow a 'decent' crop of NLights with just CFLs?

Any Help is appreciated..

You can definately grow a great crop with CFL's. You just have to use the right spectrum for each stage, as in veg you want a 2 to 1 ratio of "daylight to soft white bulbs"...In flower u want a 2 to 1 "soft white to daylight" Granted u will have bigger plants and bigger buds with a hps but then u have to consider heat and venitlation a lot more than with the CFL. With the CFL you just have to keep closer and utilize things like LST. I have had longtime growers amazed when i show them what can be done with CFL. You just have to make the best decision for you. Hope this helps!

veg with the cfl if you have to, but there is no reason you cant veg with an hps, if you are concerned about having enough blue light add some cfls. you can grow decent bud with cfl, but by the time you add up bulbs and sockets you might as well buy a 400w. consider getting a conversion bulb for veg, even on a budget lighting and ventilation are the two areas you really cant cheap out on. also put that light in an enclosed, ducted hood to make temps easier to manage. in a space that size you could use a 600w if it was vented properly.

So, Veg. I want 2 Daylight Bulbs - 1 White Bulb and opposite for Flowering?

And this seems like a better idea for a new grower like myself instead of an HPS right off the bat?

Also, I am only looking to grow for myself now, something simple but also something that works..

2 to 1 is a rought estimate but u want more daylight to soft white in veg and the other way around in flower....just so u have all of the color spectrums covered. When u use a lot of CFL and the sockets it can approach a hps in price but not in the amount of electricity it uses and the heat, but for more experinced growers should go with the hps..You will grow great buds with CFL..

Thanks a bunch for your help man, it is much appreciated!

Just so I am fully informed though,

2700k is for flowering right? I have those now, just trying to make sure when I go back to home depot, it will be my last for lights at least..

I am going to use 8 bulbs for flowering and 8 different bulbs for veg..

Yeah more of the 2700k for floowering and either the 5500k or 6500k for the veg, but u want a little of both for both stages..So if ur gonna do eight for each grow then for veg do 5-5500k and 3-2700k and then reverse it for flower..There u go man now u got it..All rep will be much appreciated..haha

No problem man if ya need anything let me know...I have a few CFL grows under my belt and have had great results...I;m no master but if i can help I will and I will never tell u something untrue..
