What to look for when its time to harvest

So My hairs on my flowers are turning colors(just starting to) whats the best sign to look for when you know its time to harvest? I thought the colors of the trichomes determined the type of high you get? I want to be able to be able to pull em at the right time. Right now most of the hairs are still white so its still not time yet But any tricks or ideas that might be helpful?:joint::peace:

Not color of the hairs (pistils) but the color of trichomes (the small glandural structures which contain cannabinoids) determines the ripeness, although the hairs tend to be brown when ripe, but not always. Try to get at least a 30x scope to look closely at the color of the trichomes, generally clear trichomes represent the beginning of the harvest and if harvested at this time the high will be more psychedelic (heady). When the trichomes start to turn cloudy you will have a mix of heady/body high and when almost all are cloudy to amber the high will be more of a couchlock because at this time some of the initial THC has degraded to CBN and also other cannabinoids (CBD, CBG) have accumulated in the meanwhile decreasing the ratio THC : other cannabinoids.

hope this helps

So when there cloudy is the best time im asuming? The hairs even if there still white upon harvesting is ok?

that depends on the high you like. Do you prefer more of a psychedelic high or the opposite, a good relaxing couch lock?

So harvest once the trichs start to turn amber, but remember that a good relaxing high is typically characteristic of indicas while the giggly hallucinating high tends to be inherent to sativas. Harvesting early or late wont turn an indica into a sativa or vice versa, it will only have a small impact on the characteristics of the high.

happy growing!

I do not see any buds yet, you will have to worry about harvesting and trichome color in at least 8 weeks after switching to flower. When did you switch them to 12/12?

Oh sorry I misunderstood that post. In that case look with the microscope anywhere on the buds where the pistils (white/brown hairs) emerge. Once you focus the scope on it you will see the trichomes. You might want to check both the top buds and lower buds as they can develop differently.

ok sounds good i know i looked at the one inside and they are clear but i will check again tommorow and I believe the one outside its budding but because its starting to get cold here i wonder if the plant will last how ever it is in its flowering stage but just a few weeks. as the temps reach the 30s at night im hoping by covering the plant i can make it last till its buds

30F is asking for trouble, the cells might freeze and the plant will die. Additionally such low temperatures radically inhibit the growth rate if not stop the growth at all.

hope it works out!
