hi all, preparing for 1st grow. I got a 400hps (with430 son agro bulb, so more blue spectrum in it) and a 400mh. I was gonna use the mh for vegging and the hps for flowering. Now the hps has much more lumens than the mh right? and i just been reading some threads with people vegging and flowering with the same hps and they got wicked results, so im thinking with a 430 son agro hps would i get better effect vegging than with a 400 mh even though the mh has more blue spectrum light, what you all think, is it a toss up or will one be much better than the other? nothing vegs better than a mh or cfl's. don't get me wrong, hps works perfectly fine, but the mh with it's blue spectrum is exactly what a vegging plant needs for compact growth. since, you have both bulbs, why not use both? mh for vegging and the son agro for flowering.
If you use the MH for veg you'll get slightly tighter node spacing as a result of more blue light in MH, however you'll get faster overall growth with the HPS. It's your call. Since you've already purchase the 400w MH bulb, go ahead and use it, but when it comes times to replace the bulb, just get an HPS.
