What’s a good 1000w HPS bulb

It's old technology. The inexpensive bulbs are as good as the expensive bulbs these days. I use Vivosun bulbs. You can pay $80 for an Eye Hortilux or $28 for a Vivosun 1000 watt bulb. The Vivosun bulb will produce the same. There's not really any secret to making these bulbs.

In my opinion LED outweighs HPS all day in 2022. I would look into quality LEDS.

When I was using HPS.. now using CMH and LED... I always used Ushio. Similar performance and quality/reliability as Hortilux but less money. I would usually pick up a 1000w Ushio HiLux lamp new for about $60 online.
Are the very hot? The ushio runs fairly cool to hortilux MH I use

Yeah they’re both very hot(eye hort/ushio) Funny, a few weeks ago someone was trying to get me to buy led’s for my grow space, the 2 lights together would have cost me around $1500 lol. The old tech is tried and true and cheap easy to replace. My plants wouldn’t be healthier or better under the leds, I’d take the Pepsi challenge any day! lol
my ushio HPH was significantly cooler than my hortilux MH. Maybe it’s just a difference in HPS and MH. Yes I see people mentioning I should get LED. When I got started in it HPS outperformed LED.

I've used a variety of lights over the years. The Vivosun Bulbs are just as good as the more expensive Eye Hortilux.

I've grown the last 4yrs using 1000k watt hps, using hortilux and cheapie chicom bulbs from Amazon side by side. The hortilux bulbs were always brighter and more yellow.
Until this past year when I bought ushio bulbs to try out. The price was right and I'd never used them so why not..?
The ushio were bright as fuck!! I'd say the spectrum was similar to the hortilux and easily as bright, I actually (from an untrained eye) think the ushio were brighter by a smidge.
I will say that the chicom bulbs grew fine weed but they had an astronomical failure rate. I'd order 3 and only 2 would light, replacements would have 1of 3 would be shattered in the box. After 4yrs I'd say that easily 30% of them were delivered defective or broke. That never happened with expensive bulbs.

I’d have to learn about LED from what I understand they don’t penetrate canopy well. When I got into this hobby many year ago the HPS was king

I can put 3 TimeWreck plants under one 1k hps and pull just under 2lbs, sometimes a little less sometimes a little more….but I’m suppose to spend $1500 to fill my space with leds? Kiss my ass! lol
that’s awesome, my 1st grow many years ago I got 2lb but never again for some reason
