Whats best for cool tube??

if you sent your exhaust out of living space and if you have negitive pressure in your grom room or grow closet or your tent you have negitive pressure in your home. there is noway around this fact. it physics 1 o 1. negitive pressure is a very bad thing if you need climate contol to be comfortable in your living space either heat or ac it dont matter. if you have negitive pressure in your home you are sending air that you paid to be cooled/heated/dehumidified out that vent. thats a fact. if you have negative pressure in your home unconditioned air is being sucked in to your living space through any crack or gaps in doors windows through even electric outlets and swicthes. this air needs to be conditioned for you to be comfortable and that cost electric. it causes your home hvac/heater to condition new air from the begining all the time. if you dont have neg press or possitive press your homes ac/heater just has to treat air it has all ready treated.. basically it just has to keep topping off instead of starting over. the bigger the difference in outside temp/humidity to your comfort zone the more this is effident. these are are bad things. it cost money. its avoidable. if you have electric to burn, burn it on lights....more lights more buds. putting a fillter on the vent thats cooling your light is as bad as bad can be. it lowers the cfm by huge amounts. the dirtier the filter gets the lower the cfm goes. its the cfm/temp of the air passing over the light is what cools light. the cooler you get light the cooler the growroom. the cooler the light the closer you can get light to plants. lights power to plants drop by huge amounts every 6inches away you move light. the closer the light is to plant the more yield and quality. electric companies in usa are required to notify police if a customer is using to much power for that size of house in this nieghbore hood. i thought that these facts made my answer the only right one. im not guessing i made all these mistakes myself i learned the hard way.

I know what your saying with the filter on the light being bad now ,didnt really think about the set up just got everything quick as i needed a flower area. First time using cooltube so set it up almost as if it was a normal light. Yeah learnt the hard way, took it down real quick.Thats why this thread started i knew there had to be someting missing,funny enough my local growshop told me to put fil/fan/cool when i think about. Its kinda of the same over here with electric,but i know loads who dnt pay jack squat either boxxin it or them chipped keys.

Anyway ,you growing some?

Overall how do you like your DR's? Is it worth it? It would cost me about $300 to get a DR150 to my door. I plan to put 2, 2x4 hydrotek flood tables in it and DIY a Ebb and Flow setup and turn it into an SOG op. Having the two tables would allow me to get about a half lb. every month. And just veg outside of the tent on a metal rack or something. I've got some Mandala Satori i've been wanting to pop open for sometime now. Leme hear your feed back on the DR's please!

I think there ok but they i dnt think they do well with 600s not the dr120s anyway, the vents are on 6" so not big enough for proper cooling with out reducers.Might not be as much of a problem if youve got a cool tube. Also the rip easy if the roof bars turn upwards one of mines got aleast 5 patches on it already. They keep the light in you only see few specks here an there,kinda of like looking at little stars . I prefer to do the room than tents really think its easier to manage temps.
I paid £125 for mine.
Sounds like a good setup there,post some pics would like to see that 1 harvest every month technique might give it a go if it aint to compilcated.

Id say if you can find one with larger vents go for that, otherwise there ok(havent tried any others)

Thanks I appreciate your feedback. The review on greners.com of their tents said the DR150 was the best, better than the hydrohut, growlab, homebox, and sunhut silver or something like that. But i most certainly would get a Radiant air cooled hood with a 1000w in it over the 4x4 - 5x5 area. But I actually just got done giving the link to someone else who asked me about the other ventilation thread i responded to, the link where i learned this method who actually drew the picture i gave you. https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/6592-get-harvest-every-2-weeks.html I would do it just like that except not near as many plants, just 16 flowering at a time, 8 in each tray, and only have the 2 trays to make the harvest every month instead of every 2 weeks. Makes it more manageable in my opinion, that way I'm not keeping track of 4 crops at a time while drying a 5th crop at the same time, as well as taking care of mothers and clones. That'd have to become my day job. But yeah there's the place where I got my inspiration. Seems easy enough to me. I'd really like to give it a go here pretty soon.

I checked out that link you posted , as you say its like a day job!! Might try something like every 2mths cause i like my plants a bit bigger than 1meter especially if its cheese.
I never used a 1000w yet,how does it compare to a 600? Going to get my y piece and reducers tomorrow so i can set up my 10" exhuast for my tents might just get that powerplant air cooled hood i seen the other day . whats that mandela like?

I haven't popped the mandala's yet but they are suppose to be good. mandalaseeds.com I've got the Satori. And I only have a 400w currently, I figure I'll upgrade once i pop the satori and get a mother picked out. I'd go with two 600's but that'd probably be too much weight on the DR's frame so I'll pry just get a 1000w. It will also save me from having to buy a second ballast and everything.

The plant bottom right sufferd some nutriant burn since this was taken, think i saved it in time will post new pics in few.

Kick the tents are pretty strong should hold up unless you've got some heavy lights two should be fine. I thought dr150 was only big enough for one light - 150cm x 150cm x 200cm .

that last one could be diseased but I could be wrong. Doesn't seem to have a nutrient deficiency or light burn so idk you've got me stumped.

On the whole push/pull debate most people are SOOOO wrong!!!

Pushing the air over the bulb is definitely the best way IF your setup allows (eg keeping negative pressures etc etc).... And that's a scientific fact!!

The air inside the cooltube on a "pull" system will be lower pressure than for a "push" system, lower pressure means less density and less heat capacity. Therefore the air that actually passes of the bulb can absorb less heat! There is also a significant difference in the pattern of airflow between the two systems, with a "pull" system creating laminar flow (again reducing pressure, this time on the surface of the glass and bulb where the cooling is most desired) and a "push" system creates turbulent flow which increases the cooling effect.

So there you have it.... Two definite answers to the push/pull debate!

To back this up on my grow with 2x vertical 5" cooltubes connected to a 450cfm centrifugal fan running 400W HPS bulbs..... With the system in "pull" we couldnt keep the temps below 86-88, but then with the fan reversed and now in "push" mode we had a nice consistent 81-83.

It may have worked for you but to you comment about the negative pressure, the cooltube does not affect the atmosphere of the tent if you have it go from one sock out the other. dr you should do a test of both and record the temps to see what works best for you i suppose is the only clear way to get a good test. Do what works best for you.

Thanks for the advice Fortwenty, you sound like you know what your talking about concerning the cooltubes , i aint heard no one say that about the heat and glass , going to have check it up .Glad you put in a word for pushers..

Cool.. Now you see why i should of done a poll from the start!! Info sounds good but as you say all i can do is see what works best for me

alright I.S.. thats kinda how i first set it up but had the fan in room ,didnt think it helped much with the filter reducing the fan power. There s a few posts on here that would agree and disagree with you ,read back from the first page.. Isay try it without it on the filter see how its does.


What mike said for many reasons.

You do not want to add a filter in line with a cool tube as the filter reduces the air flow and does not allow proper cooling of the fixture.

You want the bulb pointing away from the air flow so the base of the bulb is cooled first.

A cool tube system should be sealed from the grow room, drawing clean air in and dumping clean air back out somewhere else.




If its gonna be ur exhaust for your tent too u need to go filter,cooltube, fan sucking through both and blowing out somewhere high and outside the room. And that's one of the few things I agree with cervantes on. Not only will it help contain smell but it will also help keep temps regular.
Take a straw, poke holes into it then blow into it, ull be amazed how hard you'll have to blow to keep air from escaping those holes, now suck through it. If ur PUSHING all that heat through the vebts ur PUSHING it out of any and every tiny hole there may be, or a bad seal even. Where as if ur pulling, well all ur gonna do is pull somewhat unfiltered air out of the tent, where it needs to go.

Wait, Are u pushing air from the light to the into the filter? If so that's ur problem. Ur filter will be most effective when air is pulled into it
