Let's hear what's served you best
I haven't used them because they're not the easiest filters to find in the U.S. (they are also expensive, although maybe that's a conversation for another thread), but Mountain Air carbon filters seem to be held in very high regard. You may want to add them to the ballot or at least make an option for other if possible.

Also, authentic Rhino Pro carbon filters are a popular option (particularly in the U.K.).

I don't know if I can vote in the survey, but I currently have an 8 inch A.C. Infinity filter. I don't think it's the highest quality filter, but the carbon bed isn't the thinnest I've seen and the flanges on it are reversible. As long as I don't turn my fan up too high, odor outside the tent is minimal. That counts for something.

I have some phats that have been running for over 7 years and still going strong. I think Phat and Phresh were the same company and the partners split it up, the design is the same, both have the anti bypass tech.

Phat and Phresh seem to get the best reviews but even inexpensive carbon filters can be suitable for some home grows.

I see a lot of negative reviews for the VivoSun filters, and I don't doubt that people have received some that had blockages, but I've had one going for a year and a half that still scrubs the air in my tent to the point that I can't smell anything, as long as the tent is closed, and that includes when I vent back into the room during the winter months.

One thing I don't think a lot of growers think about, that really extends the life of your filter, is to only use the filter when it is needed. What I mean by that is to only connect the filter during the weeks of flower (and sometimes during late veg) where the smell is an issue. When smell is not an issue, pull the filter out, wash the pre-filter, blow out the canister filter (from the inside out) with compressed air, and then put it aside until you need it again. If you run one at all times then you are going to greatly reduce the longevity of the filter.

I've also seen people on forums who have thrown away filters that got clogged up with mineral deposits from humidifiers. I had this happen once, and thought I destroyed my filter, but scrubbing the outside of the filter with a dry brush, and then blowing it out from the inside, made the air pass through the filter again like it did when it was new (or close to it).

for what it’s worth I have the 6 inch vivosun and it seems to do the job. Can’t smell anything outside the tent and I’ve got 7 plants in there. They look like they should reek but I don’t smell anything. It was pretty cheap and it says you can reverse the flange for extra life. I’ve only had it for about 2 months, so all I can say is that it works for now. No idea how long it will last and the next one I get will probably be nicer. I spent like $700 building LEDs and didn’t want to spend a shitload on a filter after all that.

I've been using the Vivosun filters for awhile. They're a decent filter and do what they're supposed to do. The 6" I'm using doesn't let any smell escape. But you sure can smell the plants when I open the door to the tent. It stinks up the garage. I basically run the filter because I don't want people walking down the street smelling weed as they walk past my driveway. It may be legal to grow but that doesn't mean I want all my neighbors knowing I'm growing weed. I live in a nice family oriented neighborhood. Gotta keep up appearances. I don't want to be known as the druggy down the street. :bigjoint:

I hear that. I’m growing legally as well and my landlord knows. My tents are in a spare bedroom. My house is way off the street but before I put the filter in it reeked outside my front door. I dunno. I value discretion even though there’s no stigma around it here. My outdoor plants are probably gonna stink this year though and there’s not much I can do about that. I trust my German Shepherd to keep rippers out of the yard.

Lol. My buddy trusted an 8 foot corrugated steel fence and two pit bulls to guard his plants. Still got robbed, kids probably tossed some t-bone steaks with sedatives in them over to the dogs then had their way with the crop.

Thing is if you set several thousand dollars in the yard, dog or no dog, someones gonna try real hard to get at it if they know it's there.

Last year the plants I grew outside didn’t stink all that bad. Some shitty cheap gear from nirvana. This year I’ve got a good cut out there that’s a pretty stinky chem/diesel variety. I’m keeping them scrogged super low and there are several fences between the grow and the street. It’s also a safe neighborhood, and someone out of place in the area would be noticed immediately, but if they really start to stink bad I’ll be in uncharted territory. Growing up where I did you never heard stories about people getting busted for growing, just their plants getting ripped.

I like the AC Infinity just because they seem pretty decent and the price is competitive with the shit brands like ipower and vivosun. I run the 8'' filters with reducers down to 6'' fans. Ive had one running non stop for 2 years and its still working good.
