I'm guna have my first crop in 1 week today and would like to know the best way to cut them down.

Shud I leave it all on the stalks and leave it hung up in a dark room for a while til the job is done or is there a better way?!

Also I hear that I should leave the plants in total darkness for the last 2 days to crystallizeis this true??

you need to read more.
Drying and curing are as important as the grow.

most people flush a few days to a few weeks before harvest.
(I do 48 hours before)
I cut all branches near the base of the main stalk.
some people cut the whole thing at the base.
it's really a preference thing.

Then I trim fan leaves and hang in a dark climate controlled space for about 6-8 days.
(75-80F 55%RH) the buds 'seem' dry after a few days but moisture stores in the stem.
Hydrometers take the guesswork out of it.
once your buds get down to about 10%-15% you can jar them up.
once jarred... you let the moisture build back up from inside the stem and then release and exchange the air (about once a day or so)
after your jar keeps a constant 10% RH your buds have finished curing and can be smoked or stored permanently in jars.
if you don't cure and dry properly... your weed will be 40% the strength it should be and it will probably smell like cut grass....

10% is damn near bone dry. I aim for 55-60%RH
