One of the best ways I found to smoke out of my bowls is too be sure not too pack it too tight. I found the easier it is to suck air through, the better the hit. No one likes too smoke joints that are rolled too tightly cause you can't get a good hit off it. Same with bowls, lightly packed bowls will hit like a charm and have you coughing and leaning in no time. 
Oh and don't forget to clean that bad boy out from time to time. It's a must for smooth, clean hits.

just my opinion, but i'm backing up what pretty much everyone has said. and also, my firm belief is that if you have a nug and just stick it in the bowl and put a flame to it, you might as well throw it away, it's so much of a waste. it doesn't burn evenly or very well and you're robbing yourself. one of the worst things that's happened is all the pictures in high times where they are showing off bud, with nuggets just stuffed into a bowl. people look at that and say "hey, that's how they show doing it in high times so that must be the best way." tis a disgrace.

After you grind the bud, you end up with little bits. But some of the crystals and hairs on the bud, which contain most of the THC / psychoactive compounds, fall off each time. At the bottom of your grinder is a screen and a tray to catch all the fine little pieces that fall through. That collection of trich crystals / hairs = kief.
It's not that cool the kief burns up way to fast.. Now a blunt with hashish mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

vaporizers are awesome, after the weed is done, you can smoke joints with it and it still gets you high....
on ebay some are only like 25 bucks...
