What's the hype with autos?

Incorrect and misleading. I've run 12/12 on all plants for 15 years...autos and photos... auto herms are caused from other stress factors NOT lighting schedules.
NO WHERE does it say autos REQUIRE anything more than 12/12, ONLY that they can handle and make use of it. Do some in depth homework.
Thanks.

So what other stress factors can cause a plant to go hermaphrodite? My golden rule, in 20 years of growing, has been to defoliate a week before flower and then leave them be other than watering. In my early days I have had photos herm on me and I have put it down to I was always messing with them. These days I defoliate, let them veg on for a week and then flower them. With these Autos I was just going to stick them in the flower tent and let them be, just water.

Autos are great for a few other reasons.

1) When you are running low on your head stash and you don't have 4-6 months to properly do a photo
2) Short growing seasons for outdoor areas that have it rough
3) experimenting.
4)space limitations

I don't like the b.s. around clones and the craziness people get with that. People paying like 200 dollars or more for clones on IG all day long makes no fucking sense to me. It also takes a lot less effort to pop a seed IMO. Even with photos I still grow from seed.

I will be running autos soon in a new tent set up to get everything dialed in. It will be a good way to boost my stock for the winter (lots of edibles usually in the slow winters) and let me figure out light distances and levels without being to worried about the result.

I don't think auto's are the end all be all, but I think if you get good strains you would be surprised by the results. Some strains are pushing 4oz or more a plant, which is quite a bit better then the older ones that would barely pop an ounce.
If they aren't the endall or be all what are you wasting time with them.

Actually can't remember my last hermi with autos but I do know heat was the only factor that was out of whack. After adding an ac/dehumidifier to my tent, no more issues.
Autos are very resilient. When my tent bulges, I move some to another grow space or outside. They just keep ticking.
Can't do all that shit with photos....

And money too. Just to buy some disappointment, Root em on , dude.,,,
Why the fuck are you talking about. I support and grow autos all I said is that they aren’t the end all be all.

I think you are literally retarded so I’m just gonna go about my day and ignore you from now on.

20201025_171222.jpgno seeds here. No autos either.

Autos are popular cause the growers don't have to deal with the real work of selecting phenos and cloning from regular seeds. Anytime you get lazy, grab a shortcut, refute prior research as Retarded, this plant will try to fuck itself.and there you will be....smart.

Autos are popular for a number of reasons... some of which are quite handy as when one grows in an "open scenario", window/balcony or outdoors in the northern/ southern hemisphere and there's little or no control over the light regime. In other words, when photo's wouldn't work. You can still do a selection with automatiks - pick off any seedling that doesn't comply with your environmental standards set, but you can't keep them as mom... so for real big indoor commercial grow ops they are a no-go. The big commercials only laugh about a few hundred bucks for a top notch genetic - if such a cut guarantees them stability, increased growth/ harvest/ quality/ younameit - then this money is well invested. It's most likely newbies not understanding the full scope of these business patterns...

I sometimes need to remind myself it's mostly beginners posting at these forums (most of them claim 20 years of XP) then all they can show are unfinished plants not even halfway through and basically all of them here were full of animal hairs or else.

People who grow outdoors and have very short grow seasons or who have bad weather in the fall when photos mature will benefit from growing autos that will finish mid to late summer instead of in the fall. People who have common power outage problems benefit from autos. There are many reasons to use autos.

Don't forget about people who couldn't grow certain times of the year, if it wasn't for autos.
If I don't run my tent in the basement 24/7 right now, temps get too cold and RH goes to near 100%.
I was planning on doing a 12/12 from seed with photoperiod plants (bodhi at that) after my current auto grow is done, but I don't think I can yet..

Why not hear the basement?

he does it - but with light (24/7) - which, may work, but the irradiance needs to be toned down to arrive at the same DLI. It's still preventing plants "sleep". Investing into some IR heater, and a heating mat for below the pot, may be a good investment. Control of environmental stats is one key to optimize plant growth.
