Whats the magic number

Ok Im new I know it and thats why Im here ... for help

I plan on doing my first indor grow with flouresent light in a closet in my basement

other than fertilizer and water and temp these are easy things to figure out

whats the magic number for growth time

ive read that ppl are veging for as little 2 weeks and for as long as 45 days is there a magic number for how long to do this Is there a point when 24 hours of light doesent help anymore since youve had your plants growing vegitativly for too long

So what the magic number for flowering

is there one or is this completely subjective to when the plant is ready depending on fertilizer availableity and water or root growth

so I gues what it comes down to is

what is the best amount of time to let my girls veg in 18/6 before switching to 12/12

and on average how long does flowering take

:weed: thanks

It all depends how big you want your plants....theoretically you can veg forever,so with that said there is no general number of a specific time period for vegetative growth it all depends on you and what your grow area allows you.

Take a look at the page towards the top there are stickys read the grow guide first. Better yet there is a Faq page right at the top of your screen check that out all the basics are there, you just have to READ!

you can veg as long as you want. I've flowered straight from clone, and I've let them veg for 4 months, it's all about how much space you have to grow, and how patient you are.

Flowering is dependent on strain. Most fall into the 8-10 week range but some, like an AK-47 are done in about 6 weeks, while some strains go for 12 weeks. Just do your harvesting research.

Good rule of thumb is how ever tall they are at the end of veg. stage they will double at least by the end of flowering, that is if you are doing things right

yep thats what i go by,

height from top of growing container to bottom of light, devided in half, minus 2-3 inches. then flower when your average height is that.

but again thats just how i roll.

but then i do alot of stupid shit. i intentionally stunt vertical growth to increase shrubbyness, and i trim fan leaves to increase branch length, but i have a whole pruning regamine that i follow, and i know for a fact most people on this forum would call me a damn fool for it.

but as for a magic number, to get best bud yeild and quality each differant kind of weed must be veg'd for X amount of time. and in this instance X is a dependant variable based on all them things mentioned earlier , (temp fert light water co2 atmospheric preassure altitude dopey sleepy bashfull and most importantly genetics) but most things is just plain subjective.

Sounds easy enough

so I can veg till my plants are about 2.5 to three feet tall and then flower from there sweet

So Assuming your not a "damn fool" Wat does extra bushyness and longer branch length do for you?

once the plant stops growing leaf nodes across from each other & starts throwing nodes on random sides , it is mature enough to flower. like said above, let it veg till its about 1/2 the height you want to finish it at.

if you are going for 5-6 foot trees, you will also need good lighting, either a 1000 watt HPS or a lot of side lighting, smaller HPS wont penetrate down far enough so you will get a long stem w/ few buds at the base & lots of bud on top. what lights are you using?

I am planning on using a 400 wat HPS up to and two T8 flouresents mounted up and down on each side so six in all with the walls painted white or maybe lined with tin foil dull side out

putting a fan on the side at the top hooked to a thermostat set for about 75 degrees I think

Im going to put the Inlet for the air down low close to the cement floor to draw cool air in and a small 10 inch fan inside to keep the air stirred up

I havent thought about CO2 enrichment yet but I dont think Ill need it the first time around

sounds good so far, go w/ the flat white, foil sucks.
I would switch to flower at about 18-24 inches
I assume the fan hooked to a thermostat will exhaust air out the top & the 10 inch fan will stir the air inside?
sounds well thought out.can only add you might need to consider controlling the smell & dont overwater or over fert
happy growing!! ..mc

thanks for the Input

yup exhast will go outside directly and Im considering an activated charcoal filter to control the smell

What about numer of plants Im considering 6 plants wich is a little less than SOG at 1 plant per squar foot

maybe Ill top them to bush em out a bit and fill the space

if you want to finish 6 plants(sounds about right for your space) from seed, start 12-15 to account for males unless you plan to clone

I was going to buy feminized seeds from a company in Europe but I know a couple ppl around the area that might be willing to either give or sell me a few clone babys

so I could go either way probably go with the clones just because it takes one step away
