i'm not getting a few people's high strung elist "anti-hack" contempt calling breeders like TGA hacks, with strains that seem to make many happy including me as his jack's cleaner 2 is the best indoor bud i've ever smoked so far in my life. columbian gold is trippier, but just try finding that in pure form anywhere these days.
i've done some crosses of my own, without serious selection either, for my own headstash and merging qualities of 2 different strains as well as aiming for a hybrid vigor boost and have been condescended to as a hack myself by someone who apparently thinks you can't say you've bred weed until you select parents from a field of 100 or more, then back cross and stabilize the strain.
what is up with the extreme anal retention there? who is anyone to tell another grower what they can and can't breed in their garden? you know, simple crosses are a LEGIT form of breeding. you get something roughly in between the two parents with minor pheno variation and only see the real variation when you back cross and re-combine the genes. it works for me. my super cali haze x C99 "fruity booty" cross made me very happy as it was just as good as a bunch of generic jacks, thais and hazes i tested with it and maybe even a little better than average, though overshadowed by sweet haze which had to have started with some really nice parents.
so what if you get pheno variation? if BOTH of your parents are from great strains, you're going to at least get hybrid vigor and should get something great too. great + great does not = schwag, and if anything, it works the other way... two mediocre strains could improve on each other's weaknesses. look at big bud (no one's growing the real deal BTW). it's been described as harsh and weak, but when you cross it with skunk#1, you get critical+ and that strain stomped 30 others one member here has tried. one crappy plant and one good one make something great.
i guess the best explanation is some people just have to have everything broken down into heirarchies with serious breeders in it for the money being at the top and anyone else being beneath contempt. it's a bit extreme. i'm not claiming to be an experienced breeder with anything more advanced than (super cali haze x C99) x (C99 x A11) to show for as my 2nd generation cross, still keeping the name fruity booty, untested so far. i just like to find the best smoking strains i can and let them fuck each other and let my gals get at least some dick for all their THC goodness. yes, it's informal and i'm not stabilizing anything, but it's just for my own headstash AND assuring i always have seeds to work with.
i'll sure as fuck put fruity booty 1.0 up against ANYTHING i've wasted money on since the mid 80s! fuck all that stoner bud shit. i only grow for strains that get you high and any two strains that do that & that are reasonable quality to begin with are going to make crosses that get you high too.
if i COULD do real selective breeding, i would and even enter the seed market once i got my shit wired together, but for now, i'm just growing what i like and looking for better. i'm 100% POSITIVE too that my sweet haze x (C99 x A11) cross will be MUCH better as sweet haze is faster and trippier than more generic super cali and C99 x A11 should be trippier than C99 too, so in that regard, i've "selected" for something even better.
unless holy smokes' malawi gold is watered down schwag and not the real deal, EVERYTHING i knock up with that should be really good as just about everything i'll be crossing it to already gets you high. the bottom line for me is, if ANY strain SMOKES AWESOME, i don't care who made it or how. i'm just looking for results, and specifically, the best strains to start with from the beginning.
i dream of working lemony MG with lemony jack herers and/or lemon skunk and then selecting for something way better than skunk #1 polluted by 25% afghani. i'd also like to select for a few generations with tart cherry flavored buddha's sister to make a cherry haze 2.0 for real breeding with goals and stabilizing, but for now, mixing up the best strains i can in my own garden is plenty fun unlike boring ass cloners. LOL
so why so uppity about TGA taking a couple really good strains and making really good crosses of his own? my 2-3 JC2s were pretty similar and more importantly, gave me THE high that is closest competition to my columbian gold benchmark. it has a stonier edge, but higher euphoria and where gold has a fun "light floaty" effect like your body, especially your legs, is one big helium balloon where i got a really fun "touchy feely" buzz that made me want to massage myself and wherever i did, i imagined ripples of invisible colors radiating out of wherever i touched, so i don't have a lot of patience with TGA etc. haters as i've been looking for that good of a buzz since around 1987! if TGA is a hack, then what's that make all those cash crapping dweebs on the street that never sell you anything that gets you high ever? they are most definitely on a lower level no matter how inbred their stoney shit is.
if anything, maybe it's the envy of knowing that while they're growing for maximum $$$, some breeders are aiming for the kind of quality that makes customers like me tell them to go fuck themselves, just like i did last week in fact with my supplier, as soon as they start flaking or acting like they're doing me a favor. it's a shame too as he FINALLY started getting something with just a little sub skunk #1 high in.
as i've only tried one TGA strain, i won't call him my favorite breeder just yet and i've yet to try sannie's jack f7 which might be better still. i'll name DNA genetics as my favorites as EVERY strain i've tried by them has been clearly above average, especially sweet haze, but even their slightly stony sour cream impressed me with how sexy it smelled and tasted and their lemon skunk is so much better than the way stonier tastes like cardboard sunk i used to get in the 90s. if they're 3 for 3 on the quality front, they've earned my respect.
