When should I flip??? Space issues

I have a 400 watt hps in a small 4x3x8 room. I'm worried about the stretch when I flip my lights. I have 3 clones and the biggest one is 12 inches. The other two are about 8-10 inches they're pretty skinny and don't have much growth but I'm still worried about the space and stretch. When should I flip?? I don't want to have space issues or my plants burning from the hps.

is that 8 feet or height?? indica plants will more then likely double in size when you flip them, sativa's can triple, ie, a 12 inch plant will end up around 36 inches or so when done.

My closet is 3ft wide by 4 1/2ft long and about 6ft tall. I thought it was way taller but I factored in where my light will be hanging and the size of the hood and whatnot. All my strains are supposedly OG but that's just what the dispensary says. So should I wait till about 15-20 inches to flip the lights? That will also give the other smaller two clones time to gain some more growth.

I think the problem lies with the size of the room, per plant ratio. You need to get those plants as bushy as possible and possibly tie the stem down. the goal is to fill about 3/4 of the cannopy in veg then switch to flower. 400s you really wanna keep the plant under 16 inches of actual budding area< plant can be taller just clean out everything below the top 16 inches befoe flower.Also how big are your pots or system? im no expert but ive fucked up allot and tried to learn from it lol.

I have the exact same size tent and had the same issues.... I flipped at 8"-12" because after my light was hung I had only 44" ish inches are grow space... I am 4 weeks into flower and next time know I can veg them until 13"-18" b4 flipping.. I think i lttle longer in veg makes flowering happen quicker once they are flipped.

Oh so your saying the 400w only penetrates 16'' into the canopy? So to remove all the lower because they arent getting efficient light?
I have three clones, two in 3gals and one in 5gal. Ill post some pics.
My clones are about 10-12'' tall now.
