when to put germinated seedlings under light?

hey all, I am growing 2 plants, have germinated them, they have shook off their shell casing, and the cotyledons are poking through the soil, just a few millimetres or so though. one plant (i stupidly moved it) moves about, so it hasnt took rooting yet, yet one plant seems fine, and rooting, i.e, staying in place, looks like an s shape at the moment, with the bottom planted, its bent, then the cotyledons are facing up (if that makes sense lol)
should i wait a bit longer to put these under light, or should i do it asap? also, for the 2 weeks seedling phase, before it goes into vegging, how much light should i have on the plants? as in, i have 2 30w 2700k lights, 4 20w 2700ks and a few 21w 2700k, as well as several 14w 2700k. im getting 2 30w 6500k through the post shortly. how many of these do i need for seedling phase? i know the 2700k are more for flowering than germinating, but thats all ive got until my 6500ks come, so thats what il be using.
 
Get your light directly over the seedlings now. Remember cfl's should be close 1-2 inches away from top of seedlings max! Use 2700K until you can switch to a bluer 5000-6500K bulb. Just run your light 24-7 for vegging your plant will love it.
 
hey man thanks for the advice. how many should i be putting over the plants? as many as possible, or just one or 2 30w?
 
yeah, one seedling seems secure, the other isnt rooted properly, as in its pretty much lying on top of the soil, well with a bit inside the soil, as i played around with it, to see how much was rooted (i wont be doing that again lol). for the one that isnt rooted properly, should i bury it fully, or bury it, with the cotyledons above the surface? the cotyledons are raised up, they havent seperated yet, theyre in their original shape from the seed
 
smoken, i know this is a big debate, but do you class vegging as soon as they go under light, or after the first 5 fingered leaf appears? i want to veg for 4 weeks max, not sure if that will include 2 weeks for seedlings, or should i do the 4 weeks from this week?

cotyledons above the soil. if you havent damaged the tap root it will stabilize in time. get light on it right away.

Honesty the day it pops out of the soil I count as day one of vegging.

Id start with at least 2 of the 30 watt. You cant have too much light as long as your cfl's are 1-2" away. When you get your other two 6500 ad those to the 2700 for a mixed spectrum of light :-)
 
ive put the seedlings into my pc grow box, covered in mylar, with an intake fan and extraction fan going. ive put both 30w in, and 2 20w, making 100w, just for the seedlings, should be ok. ive got them about 2 inches away too. temps are averaging 25 degrees centigrade, with about 50% humidity. how long should it take before the seedlings arent bending, and standing up, showing their first set of true leaves?

currently im using T5 bulbs at 125 watts total for my seedlings....but ive used a 400 watt MH before, just depends on how far away you keep it. the 2 lights you mentioned should work, but get them under more light as soon as you can. as smokenpassout mentioned keep those 2 lights close. but make sure they dont dry out. as you add more light with different spectrums you will have to move the lights higher from the plants. I keep my t5's about 8 to 10 inches above mine and its just about perfect. you are looking for about 1 inch of growth between nodes in the early stages.
 
if they just poped all they gonna need is like one 23 watter each for a week then bump it up to 2 or 3 then give them all the light you got after about a week week and a half start counting you vegging days

about 24 hours.....
 
thanks for the help. i think for convenience, il keep using what ive got for a week, as in 2 30w, and 2 20w, well for about a week and a half, rather than just 2 23w, then after a week and a half or so, give them as much light as possible, do you reckon this is an alright idea, or waste of electricity for now? think also, when i get my 6500k bulbs, il replace the 2 20w one, so there will be 2 30w 2700ks, and 2 30w 6500k, think when im in my vegging phase, il put a couple of 20w 4200k in as well, to heighten the spectrum of light a bit. however, this will be in the grow cabinet, not pc grow box, as thats a bit too small for proper growth tbh
 
that will work i just said what i did to save you some energy early on just make sure you dont dry them out
 
tbh, its only 54 more watts im using than if it was 2 23w, so should be ok, yeah, what ive did, for growth, ive put the pots on dvds stacked up, so as they get bigger, can lower the pots, shouldnt dry out i hope anyway lol. had a grow before, using the grow box, and the plant got fried when a 30w fell on it, was soo annoying! so taking extra care lol
