When to start 12-12 for max yeild? what height for sog?

Im running 36 clones (un-topped) under 2x 600 hps's in a 31square foot space, they are in DWC. The strain is Afghani kush from next generation seeds. Currently they are in day 11 of veg and have great root systems and are about 5-8inchs tall. Im not doing scrog or topping/lsting, just standard single cola growth, I might lollipop if that will increase my yeild?

What size should I start 12-12 for the best yeild? I dont want them too tall so as to reduce yeild, but I also dont want them too small either. I was thinking that 3 - 3.5 foot would be a good final height for them (but i'm not 100% sure what height to start 12-12 to get that), would that be too tall for so many plants in that size space? I'd like to pull about 1oz a plant if thats possible, so what do you guys/girls think? Any input greatly appriciated +rep

they are more than likely going to at least double in size from when you put them into flower, so figure out how tall you want them to finish out, then divide that by 2 or 2.5 to be on the safe side, and this will tell you when to flower them..
if you want them to finish at three foot i think you said, 18 inches or so tall at the beginning of flower should get you close to the point that you'll want them to finish at..
i'm not sure on that strain or how much of a stretch that they will have, but i'd say at least double to be on the safe side of things..

Thanks for reply +rep
Will 3-3.5 foot be ok for 36 plants in 31 sq foot? also will 600w hps's penetrate 3-3.5 foot? The original plant these clones came from finished at 35 inches and yeilded 40g's, would I be able to get 36 of them in the space? :)

36 plants under an hps does sound like a shit ton of plant imo.. i like to think that each plant takes about a square foot of space once you count in pot size and all, so your space don't sound bad, just sounds like a lot of plants for one 600 watter .... maybe if you got another 600 watter or maybe even a light mover you'd be able to pull it off..
the size of the plants should be fine for a 600 watt lamp to penetrate them though.. i grow 3.5 footers under my old 250 watter, so i don't think that aspect of your plan is a problem.. why don't you opt for a few less plants and just grow them bigger so that your pulling more yield per plant and have less plants instead of shooting for only 1 zip per, you could aim for 3 per and cut the number down by three and still get the same yield at the end of the day.. 3 zips per plant under a 600 watter is really not that big of a deal if you veg them long enough and have big enough containers to allow for a big root mass..
hope that helps out some..

lol, I do have 2x 600hps's not just one, theres no way i'd attempt just 1x 600w in that space with that amount of plants :) . I'm leaning more toward a SOG style grow, im not into doing just a few larger plants.

i also have two 600 watt hps in a 50 square foot area I perpetual grow so when one crop is done the next is ready to flower i veg under 320 watts of flor. in six inch pots so when they are ready to put into flowering they are allready 15 to 18 inch high i then transplant them into 7 gal bags and let them veg under 600 watt hps for a week to let them settle down from the shock of the transplant then take the next batch of clones and put them to flowering 12 and 12. That puts flowering at about 20 inches high per plant and 30 inches at harvest.
My point is that i wil harvest at least 36oz from just 12 plants, a lot less work than 36 with most likely a higher yield. I do not top or shape just feed and love also the grow is kush which is a low bushy plant by nature so hight is no problem.
I guess what i am saying IMO you have to many plants and too little room

That means that I just have to veg less with more plants rather than if i had 12, thats the point of a SOG grow, more plants = less veg time as each plant needs to yeild less as there are greater numbers of plants. Im just wondering how small my plants should be before flipping to 12-12, most are nearly 12 inches tall now.

Im probably going to flip lights to 12-12 when plants are 18-20 inch, as I dont think there will be much stretch with this strain.

I flipped aroound 20-24 inches and they stretched to about 36-40 inch, way too much stretch, lights were only 12inch or lower to the tops.
