Where does algea come from?

Ive been reading about other peoples problems with algea and I was wondering, where does algea come from?

I remember when I was in middle school we learned that early scientists thought that maggots came from decaying meat. An experiment was performed where one cut of meat was placed under a glass dome completely covered and another slab of meat was left uncovered. The covered meat did not produce maggots as it decayed. The uncovered meat did produce maggots, it was later realized that it was actually flies dropping larva onto the meat which produced maggots, not the meat itself.

So my question is, where does algea come from? Is it introduced from the water supply? Is it introduced from the nutrients? Is it introduced from something else? Thanks for the answers.

its not much of an answer, but according to what i know water+light=algae. obviously it must start with microbes in the water. look at buckets, pools, rivers, and lakes. they all got light and water and algae. its the best i got

just get algae eaters for your set up ;)

i'm joking of course. dont do that. but in all seriousness its the same algae you'd see on fish tanks and, and as Gotigers said, Water+Light=Algae

where are you getting algae at? wht kind of grow you got going? if algae is a problem there is some solutions, just need to know where your prolem starts?

The spores can also be airborn. Algae itself is not harmful to plants but the nasty bacteria that come to feed on it is. pathogenic bacteria can feed on roots as well. Anywhere water sets in light and is warm such as a spot on your flood table where the water cant drain can get a little algae bloom.

The best thing i have found atcontrolling this chlorine. 1 tsp of pool shock disolved in 5 gallons of water and then 1 tsp of that final solution per gallon in your reservoir and every time you top up is a very good means to control pathogens.
