i have tryed b and q which only do up to 20w and they are 3 or 4 quid each, homebase is pretty much the same. ebay is a bit rubbish at the mo, there doesnt seem to be much good stuff at the mo. im really looking for an equivalent to 1000bulbs.com like a specialist bulb shop based in the uk. know of any?

ay,,i used them for first grow,,one 250w white for veg and then one 250w red (not actually red but u know what i mean) for flower if you can be fucked look at my last grow vid,,that was done with cfl's,in fact I would neverlet them get that big again if I used cfl's again,,just the lower buds werent to good,,,great for my first try though.....

well they are some very respectable plants. so is the 250w all thats worth getting or could i get the 105/125/150/200w range and still get a decent yield or should i just go straight for the more expensive one

well it depends on how many plants you want to try to grow.
that single 250w is just under the 10,000 lumens per flowering plant that you should have,,its 19,000 intal lumens, and should be 20,000 for 2 plants,
the other thing is if you keep the plants smaller so the bulbs are genrally closer to the plant and so penatrate the foilage,,also getting a good feed and flower stim helps to get the most outta your cfl's.
as you can see from that pic the bulbs actually lower than the one on the right to be closer to the one on the left and help bulster yeild..
if you get the small bulds you need to make sure you are reflecting as much light as possible back to the plants,,

so say you get how ever many cfl's if the lumens dont add up to alot more than what you would be getting with the one big one then its not worth it. that big cfl(250w) runs (in my area and eleecie cost etc) for roughly 3p an hour,,where as when I had 3 samller bulbs,,I cant remember the lumens but was about 100ws from 3 bulbs was costing me abit more, roughly 4.1p and hour,,so thats one of the reasons I switched and also my lumens where about 12,000 which was way to small for two plants under the 3 cfl's for flowering anyway,,lumens can be less for seedling and veg stages..,.,.

anyhow hope that helps,,,

thanks bunny that is rather helpful, but i also heard (or read) somewhere that you cant add lumens up like that

10 x 1200 lumens is not 12000 lumens its is still 1200 but just spreading out to more of the plant, can you or anyone clarify this for me? this is why i asked about getting one super powerful CFL or getting a couple of less powerful, man this lighting lark is complicated!

Yes, lumens overlap.. to a degree.

For instance I have collectively 22,000 lumens in CFL, but they are 'collective'.

That said, two 1600 lumen cfl bulbs right next to each other will emit more than 1600 lumens in that immediate several inch space..

Two like bulbs 6 inches apart .... some, not so much.

At a foot of so, back to 1600 just spread out.

Hope that helps.

excellent so if i had a 1ft plant completly surrounded with (5) 1200 bulbs then it could be assumed that i roughly have 6000 collective so mayb 3-4k at most points around my plant?
