Which LED for my 4x4?

Those prebuilt HLG225's they sell use a larger heatsink than come with the QB96 kit. I use 6 QB96's in a 4x4 run usually between 75 to 85 watts each. These are powerful lights, and unless you have a lot of headroom you won't want to be cranking them up that high. At 220w you definitely need active cooling with the standard heatsink.

7-days into 12/12 cycle:

Okay, first hand info. Thanks. What is your driver setup? I'm already committed on the 2 HLG-320-54-A... My grow space does have quite a bit of headroom and heat won't be an issue, not until summer, at least- even then I have ways to pump AC directly into the tent and at the lights. Portable AC units and I made a ghetto attachment that fits over the output that connects to 6in duct.

Nice setup, BTW.

I use two HLG-240H-54A's with 3 QB96's on each one run in parallel. I'm not sure what the max output of a HLG-320-54A is, but my 240's will crank up to around 300 watts when set to full.

What is your ideal height above canopy running them softer ~80w?

I'm still trying to gauge that, and of course it's going to depend on what point in the growth cycle they are, but so far 12-inches seems to be ok (I don't really want to get any closer that that).

Good to know. I’m in the first week of flower and was running 140w per board and they were looking a bit stressed at around 18-20”. I’ve lowered them to 120w and raised the light to 28”. They are on a 320h-54a, I plan on adding another 2 QB 96s to it soon so I can run them softer and get better coverage.

Sounds like I'm going to need to invest in a light meter to dial in these lights perfectly.( I know I know, I should already have one) It's not like the 600 RSpec where every light is the same running the same driver, so they can give you height and strength recommendations.

I'm in no rush, though. Since I started this thread my situation and budget has changed, but I'm still just running a single 4x4 until the rest of my seeds come, then I'll implement the veg tent, and another 4x4 for the QB96's. I might do autos in one of the 4x4s, we'll see how thing GrOw.

Turns out that whole room conversion won't be possible for a while. The room will be occupied for at least another 4 months . No big deal, the tents are more than enough for the moment.

One more question for y'all...Is supplement UV worth it? I know I don't have to even consider it until halfway through flower, but the research says it increases potency. The 600 RSpec doesn't have UV, but they do sell a supplement bar that can actually bolt on to the 600 (or at least the 550 and 650).

Should I go for it when they're back in stock? If you think supplement UV is a good idea but have a better option, I'd like that too.

California Lightworks sells a UVB kit for 99$, too.

Thoughts?

Hlg doesn’t have IR and UV and is 300$ more expensive. Furthermore every single hps bilb looks exactly the same to me. What is your point that we look like an amazing light for less cost?
Actually the HLG 600 Rspec is on sale. It's about 720 out the door. That's 70$ more, but I am getting an extra 120 watts over yours... So nearly the same except I traded off some the UV spectrum for more power. Pros and cons to both.

If it was me I'd get those bolt on HLG ones. You don't need UV, but it will help make frostier nugs. The frostiest nugs I've grown were with CMH, but my favorite is QB's with CMH now when I can get away with it. I'll get some HLG UV lights someday and compare. But I know if I added the UV they would be better.

Yeah I'm probably gonna go that route. I can only find UFO supplements and I'd need like 4 of them, 1 for each corner pretty much- too complicated compared the the HLG. It will be super easy to place compared to another bar. I'd have to place a different one beside my QB and only half the tent would get good coverage with 1 fixture. With the HLG it snaps right under so it can be in the middle and it's designed for 4x4 coverage at the same height as the board. I know the UV is definitely not needed but that frost is what I'm after. Gonna wait on that until I start flowering, though.

This is gonna be so much fun. I cannot wait to show you guys what's up in a few months

I'm freaking jealous. I don't think I can just clip them on my 260's. But if I had yours I wouldn't be able to help myself if they just clipped on. They'd already be on a credit card, lol.

I am gonna get some soon though to check out.

I can't wait to see your next grow.
