White top forming on top of cola

I have never seen this before, and don't really know what is going on.
They are White Ice plants, indica, on week 7 or so, everything is going ok otherwise, they seemed to start this after I switched from Big Bud to Kool Bloom powder.
It isn't a cluster of white pistils, its like calyx growth almost, but its stark white, and only one of these plants did it.

I have noticed the same thing on my grow - check out my poor pic.
Other than the fact that there is some light bleaching on the leaves from where she grew into the not so 'cool tube' when I was away for the weekend last week, most of the tops of my colas started out and continue with very blonde hairy tops.
They do settle down, it's just new growth.
It really looks freaky but it's actually a mass of new baby stigma that will turn into new bud growth.
It also may have something to do with heat, I've struggled with high temps at the top of the plant which may have something to do with it.
I'm not concerned with mine because I'm only at the start of week 5 at 12/12 so she has a lot of growing to do.
But it is freaky.

How close are the lights and what kind of lights?

maybe light-bleaching? looks that way from some of those small leaves near the top.

Yes. I think your right 'sandmonkey', it is a form of bleaching. On my plant the bottom buds look and grow normal, but all top colas have this going on when temps are too high from light being too close.

yeah one of my Bubblegum plants got a lil' bleached and the leaves look identical to the op's. However the calyxes retained their color and didn't go white like that.

Not meaning to take over the thread Rudiger but here's another pic of my plant with that white hairy top goin on. It's taken under HPS so it's a bit yellow but you can see what I mean.
I had my light too close and temps were too high as you can tell by the leaf distortion.
Although my situation can be put down to some what normal new stigma clusters, and yours look like actual calyx bleaching, I would still suggest maybe lifting your light a bit to help this new growth be a bit more normal.
It is definitely a new burst of growth like Smokey said, but it's a bit screwed up. It should settle down once you get the light away from it a bit.

All the best with your last stages.

Cheers man, and thanks for all the replies.
I'm still not sure that it is bleaching from the light. There are 8 other plants under this light, and I have it set around 10 inches maybe.
There are taller plants that are closer to the light, and it's just weird that out of 28 plants, this is the only one that went this way. All the lights are set to about the same distance from the plants.
It hasn't died yet, so I should just let it do it's thing, just thought it was weird.

Well that does put my theory to shame.
Looks like we'll have to put it down to 'unexplained weirdness' then.
Update us in a few days if there's any changes, I'm interested.

If all the other plants are under the same lighting and distance from the tips, and only one has the white tips, it is not bleaching from the lights. This is a genetic defect that won't allow chlorophyll production in this part of the plant, thus causing the white variegation.

Any one have experience or resolution/identification of this problem? I have just noticed the rudiments of this weird white/yellowish calyx thing happening with a cross I bred of Purple Kush and B.C. Seeds Vampire. I cloned the mother which is growing right next to flowering babies that seem to have the beginnings of this problem. The mother does not. The plants have been growing phenomenally, and just entering week 5 of flowering. I am growing in soil, and using 3 600 watt LED's that generate minimal to no heat, with a Botanicare nutrient schedule that has never let me down. The lights are 10-12" away from the plants. This is not a heat issue and seems to be some sort of genetic defect as there has been no deviation in feeding/light/temperature etc. It has started within the last 24 -36 hours. Of the 14 tops of the plant that will develop well at canopy height of light, three have started this weird white calyx presentation. My fear is that it will stunt growth and this already huge crop will not be able to fulfill its destiny. I have decided that at the end of week 5, if the problem hasn't rectified itself, and growth has stunted as I suspect it will, I will carefully manicure the affected extreme top 1/8" which will hopefully allow the flowers to develop wider instead of longer. Any feedback/suggestions? IMG_2014.JPG
