Pineapple Thai i just trimmed up. Wanted to check trichs on bud closer. It's about ready. Just 3 little buds like this has stunk up my room in minutes. smells like air freshner! 70% milky, 28% clear, 2% amber. I'm thinking the next 2-4 days will be the best.

mornin y'all - not all that glitters is gold. i'm not sure about harvesting this girl yet. i don't see enough hairs turning color. not many hairs on this strain but plenty of glitter. the trichs are mostly milky looking in the close up pic. maybe another day or 2?

The pistils continue processing after harvest so just look at the trichs!!

Pretty much all the trichs on my mr nice are milky, but all the hairs haven't receded and changed color. Is it still ok to harvest even tho the hairs haven't changed to orange?

wait for the hairs to recede and change....

Now we have a conflict of opinion. You say wait, Lahada says they will mature after chop.. which one is it guys :?: I am soo ready to chop. Checked the trich's all around the plant, and they're all milky for the most part, probably 95% milky levels.. I'm on go mode !!!

I speak from 4 years of experience. the best most even dank high comes from allowing the plant to be finished, by the definition of finishing I go by.

when you go by trichs you are not guaranteeing yourself a good high. we're talking about outdoor bud so when it finishes is typically when it's done, the trichs don't usually finish before the whole plant does... that's why most outdoor growers who nkow their shit go by the hairs receding, calyxes swelling, and about 15-25% amber trichs.

the only time I don't go by this is if it is a sativa strain that I want to be racey. however, I do not believe sativas benefit from harvesting by trichs in any way, I believe when the hairs are 98% changed and calyxes are swelled that bud is DONE. and there is a look it gets right after it changes.. I'll quote fdd:

we will start with ripeness. most people say to check your trichromes with 30X magnification. i have other ways. when buds are done they look "done". the appearance of the bud changes. the leaves start to hook upwards and become hard and crispy. the calyxes will swell and the hairs will turn brown. you can see a golden tinge to the bud leaves. this is the amber crystals. they start to turn amber on the leaves first.

notice the difference? it's pretty easy to see once it occurs.
imho this is the best method and going by anything else is going to result in likely unsatisfactory results. often times simplicity IS better.

and come on... buds do not mature after chopping... pistils DIE, and that makes newbies think the plant still grows when its dying.

dying is a process MUCH different from growing. for newbies out there, please don't spread around misinformation mistaking these processes for eachother.
