Why big moon shaped cola leaves instead of regular sied ones?

Okay, I hate to post this because I'm sure I'll lose a ton of credibility here on RIU and I'm just plain embarassed that I have this problem. . .

I have 2 girls growing in my DWC bubbleponics. Got both seeds from Attitude (gotta love 'em! - big fan) but one plant is looking beautiful, almost a perfect specimen of White Russina, getting ready to harvest, but the other (which was topped) is growing these wild crazy big ass cola leaves on every cola. They aren't fan leaves. . .they come directly out of the cola but each one is as big as an individual piece of the fan leaf. Why the hell would that happen? Each one has some nice crystalization, but not near as good as my "good girl". Why would that happen? What's the deal? They're both in the same DWC reservoir, both fed the same, both get the same light. One is beautiful as a gopher perch, the other looks like "cousin it".

Ideas? Suggestions? Out there concepts? All replies welcome!!! :0)

That's what I though the case might be but since I got them both out of the same vile from Attitude I figured they'd be the same provider of seeds. So does that mean that it's a different breed or just a different grower of the same strain?

Nope same mother and father plant as the other seeds just a different pheno type. Just like when you have a kid, he might get blonde hair he might get brown hair.

any light issues? sounds a little like the re-veg leaves but they sound awfully large to be re-veg leaves. maybe some weird thing happened when you topped and part of the cola is trying to make new growth or something. either that or it really is just the phenotype. pretty weird but definately not worrisome.

Okay, bumping this up because I'm getting ready to harvest but I have a question. . .

Since I have these long crescent moon shaped leaves on my colas, there's crystals on the leaves as well. Not just up near the cola itself but the crystals go all the way out, practically to the tip of the leaf. Should I trim up the colas for curing so that there isn't a bunch of leaves on it or should I just snip the tips of the leaves where there aren't any crystals?

I always trim right down to the solid bud, I use all manicure/trimming for my hash, tintures, and now an organic lotions and rubs.

What is your reasoning for trimming all the way down, if you don't mind my asking. This grow is just for me and my partner. . . not selling. We don't really enjoy hash, canna butter, etc. Just the smoke. Since this is the case, would the extra leaf pieces on the colas make a bad smoke? Would it just stink more during smoking? Maybe make it taste bad or does it really matter at all? Since we're not selling we're not really concerned about weight, but we do want to get the most out of our grow. Any advice?

I find that the more leafy parts are harsh and doesnt pack the flavor and quality. I trim to where the bud becomes solid. I dont sale, I medicate so the less harsh the better.

I'm kind of afraid to try anything else. I'm a post transplant patient and I don't want to screw up anything.

The hash is basically the process of stripping the crystals from the leaves, Freeze your trimmings over night. It is a fact that frozen buds drop their crystals easier. Try taking the leaf after freezing and toss it into a blender filling half trim and half water and several ice cubes. Blend on high for 2 minutes or so. Allow it to settle for a few minutes. then strain it through a large screen like a metal one with hatched openings, something that will catch the chunky stuff. Then what I do is I filter the clean(water that is left after straining) through a supported coffee filter(p[lain old white). After water level decreases take the coffee filter and close it up to squeeze water out, this leave the hash smashed into nice little pieces inside the filter which come right off the filter when opened up and lightly knocked off. This process isnt the best but I didnt spend more than $1.00 to do this. I usually do a half oz of trim at a time and get 5 or more grams of hash. After you have your collected hash "crumbs" on another dry coffee filter. Fold that one up in a square and roll out will something hard and smooth. Dont bake it like some people say, this is only for drying and gives it a horrible taste. (My opinion) You can filter your trim a couple of times to get more crystals off of it. Just refill blender the same way and hit the icebreaker button a couple times to stir it up. Be careful though, over blending gets a little green in there, this still is better than the harsh leaves. Allow it to dry in a dry place over night. (I toss mine above my tv on a shelf.) Some poeple prefer hash because of the pureness. If you transplanted then your body would probably do better with the hash. Plus its great chopped up into spaghetti or other food. I hope this helps someone. I couldnt afford all the stuff the pros use. I have my fellow patients asking me for my hash (I dont smoke it much) because mine blows away the shop.

I add a couple chunks on the top of my bong bowl of bud, it adds a nice little kick, kinda like you smoke keif, the best way is to vaporize it. I got a plan that I used for making my own vaporizer for 13.00

Really? I'm curious to see how you plan on doing that. I've looked for a volcano vaporizer online and they are WAY expensive.

That sounds interesting. And OP, even though you're not into CannaButter maybe you know someone who is? That'd be a very nice gift for someone. As a baker (lol), I would looove it if some of that just "fell out of the sky." Just a thought.
