Why cant one do this? Or can they?

Hi all, i was just thinking and wanted to know if this is a viable way of cooling a grow room, obviously this is based on the fact that i have built my own room or you yourself have a cupboard grow, but i have included a self drawn pic so you can see what i am talking about. I know some people will say why not just use a aircooled reflector but if you dont want to be adding more fans and shit well i hope you guys get my point, im just interested to see the response from you guys and what you think.

Anyway i want to put a sheet of glass over the top of my crop and seal it off so its air tight and have a 600watt light inside the space but with air intake and outlet then the plants will have their own seperate enviroment then i can also pump the room full of CO2 and get the vents turned off while the vents above the glass in the light chamber will be open. also i was thinking doing this method i can get the light really close to the plants and also below the glass i will have chicken wire to give the SOG method

why not just use a cool tube

even if you used your glass idea you would still need a seperate ventilation system for the growing area, how are you going to get rid of the spent co2

Well i am going to try upload the picture again if not just draw it again so that you guys can get an idea what i am talking about i dont think its too complicated but you guys can be the judge

Dude, right on, great minds think alike. That is exactly the build i have. I found myself lite on cash 4 a cooltube, so i put a thin tempered glass i had lying around and sealed off the heat from my lamp. But true you will need effectively 2 sets of air circulation though but so what. My glass is slightly too long so its at an angle but it still brings my temps down till i got a 6' cooltube(if at all). Works fine !! heres' a pic with the glass above.

with the single fan, will you get enough wind power in your ventilation running that many intake/exhaust or would the design benefit from extra inline or inline fan boosters?

I think he meant the intake will have 1 fan at the start with a Y shaped tube pushing in cold air into both the chambers and vicer versa with the exhaust.

Its good to see some creative ingenuity though! you should definitely roll with that shit an build it. I built a biltong box once, while has nothing to do with growing weed, i did use the same exhaust setup. I had 50mm conduit tubing with 3 T pieces blowing air in the top compartment and another sucking hot air out opposite.

I wasnt battling the heat output of a burning hot light and i was only using a 50mm pc fan BUT it worked perfectly and had plenty of air circulation through all the openings.

good luck!

In my set up(similar to your idea) i concentrated on having the most efficient of the fans for intake on the grow section (120mm pc fan) with a 80 mm exaust then in the light section i have a 100cmf bathroom fan and a 80 mm pc fan for exhausting heat and it sucks cool air from below. Eventually i will swap out for 6" can fan as i still hafta crack the door to regulate my heat.(86 door closed, 79-80 door open) I just soldered the pos and neg of the pc fans to a 12v power adapter and run 2-3 fans per adapter. Ity makes it easier as you wont need a bunch of power units to run them all cus' it is kinda more complicated than a standard setup. peace

nice one solanero, im glad to see im not the only one who thinks this way. I mean why spend all that money on extra fans and you clog up the top of your grow room with ducting when you can simplify things. some will argue this but i just think most of the shit you buy is just so the large companies can make a bigger profit. you can grow amazing plants with the least amount of cash spend. you dont need all the fancy shit just a good imagination and a bit of trial and error well thats what i think anyway

You may want to consider a damper on the intake & out on the ducts connected to the bottom chamber as it wouldn't require the same airflow as the top chamber.
