Why do people care about pinholes in tents?

I see lots of reviews about people bitching about pinholes and bits of light coming into the tent. In the outside world there's moonlight, there's starlight, and I just don't understand why people give a s*** about pinholes in tents.

When I was growing cannabis before I put the plants to sleep I would wave a heat lamp over all the leaves for about 2 minutes. According to my reading of the time it would trigger the breakdown of the daylight hormone into that nighttime hormone and speed up flowering. Was I full of s*** then?

Hoping for information back on this.

I don’t care about a little light as long as it doesn’t hit the same place ever day.

Gotta be honest i always wondered this too.

I mean, your tent has to be under a pretty bright light or next to a daylit window to have light penetrate that hard thru a pinhole/pinholes.

Maybe one should make sure their tent is in a generally dark and cool area to begin with. ..

Yeah, i never got it either... my tents are in a room where i don't keep the lights on anyway, even if there is a pinhole it won't matter in the least but people seem to think if 1 single photon hits a plant while it's sleeping then the whole thing is garbage.

I forgot where but I did read something like 1/2 foot candles of light intensity can prompt reveg, which ain't much. Could be based on the "gas lantern technique" which I believe was originally employed to keep cotton plants in a vegetative state. .??

My tent has pin holes all over and I don't care..

for the same reason conspiracy theorys have gone ape shit recently...a lot of people believe everything they read, with no thought involved

The only reason to be concerned about "pinholes" is if you paid a lot for a quality tent. Other than that, light from pinholes wont do shit to plants.
Interruption in the light schedule is where the real issues start.

My first winter back in Alaska I didn't have anything but a light and a baby gate. Single room cabin. Darkness not a problem. So I hung my light and put my plants under that baby gate as a SCROG. I left lights off for the most part at night but watched DVDs every night. Not a single issue but was I glad to chop. Again all kinds of weak light but no adverse issues because of it. Screw pinholes in a tent.

Are you saying "reading" as in something you read? or you took actual readings of said hormones? im confused.


im not saying a pinhole or small leak is the end of the world, however, to simply make blanket statements is kinda silly. you glossed over or didnt consider a couple variables, including:

• Difference in distance/lumens/spectrum/movement of the moon vs whatever external light leak we're speaking of
• varying levels of tendency to throw balls or nanners due to the unquestionable measurable stress leaks induce on different strains.

To put it simply, sometimes it matters sometimes it doesn't.

Even if the intense grow light shows pinholes from outside chances are the low intensity lighting outside is not making pinholes inside. If your inside the tent and see light I would tape that shit for sure

But it does suck buying s gorilla and it’s lit up like a Christmas tree outside usually around the stitching and such.

what about where the zipper teeth meet? my cheapo tent has leaks along the entire zipper that have always made me nervous

I just gave away a 4' Ohuhu brand tent. Amazon cheapo. Never had an issue.

How many people reporting such problems have their tent in a showroom bright area? I mean if you have a bright white or blue temperature light shining right on the tent I can see potential problems.

I have an Ohuhu, it was OK... for around the same money you can get an Apollo which is another cheapy but is MUCH better.. better zippers and just made better. (just posting this for anyone looking for a tent)

Unless you have a big grow light right outside the tent shining on it I wouldn't worry.

I got an Opulent Systems tent. I'm really happy with the quality. That 4' went to a charity case getting started.

4 year old Vivosun 4x4. No noticeable pinholes or leaks at the zipper. Great value and does the job as good as a tent that costs 3 times as much.

Gorilla grow 3x3 with plenty of pin holes. Worried for the first grow then stopped.
No issues and may I say , Nice zippers!
