when i need a solid-at-room-temp fat, i prefer coconut oil to butter.
a) because it's more shelf-stable,
b) because i use it in topicals,
c) because i have vegan medible patients.

i made the switch mostly because of c), i figured none of my non-vegan patients would be like "ey! :cuss: i can tell there's no animal fat in this!" (and i was right.)

for liquid i've been using food-grade grapeseed oil (for similar reasons) but i really really want to make some apricot kernel oil infusion for my topicals. if only it weren't so damn spendy.

the sticky "BadKat's CannaPharm....." at the top of the page has a good coconut oil recipe (among others!)

I use Coconut infused oil for cooking and as well for external applications , it works wonder for the skin and body .. It can be used as a substitute 99% of the time when a recipe calls for butter or olive oil .. The saturated fat in coconut oil holds more Thc than butter as well :)

I used to frequent another site where a gentleman coined coconut butter ( No nonsense Oil ) in an attempt to replace Simpson oil . I highly advise others to check it out on Greenpassion if interested in his methods , study and results .. There are a few tutorials there as well

How do you guys make your coconut cannabis oil?

Extract the cannabis w/ alchool and mix w/ the coconut and wait the alcohol evaporate,
or just cook it on the coconut oil?
and why?

I just cooked mine in, I see no reason to use alcohol.

What I did was I took some really dry powdery bud a little over 3g (very mild) to 1/2 C coconut oil in a small crock pot and let cook for a long time. I did not strain my bud after, but I wish I did.

This is how I was told to make cannabis capsules (don't strain the bud, just capsule it), I figured this would be easy for food.

Well here's how I do it. I take a 1/4 pound of popcorn buds and trim and toss it in a large crockpot and add enough water to just cover the weed. I then add 4 cups of coconut oil and let it do its thing over night. There are two reasons to use the water, first it makes getting your oil back later way easier and second because the boiling point of coconut oil pretty high so you can go to way high on the temp thus ruining your oil. Having the water will help keep temps way lower. Once its cooked for 8ish hours I strain it with cheese cloth and an old tshirt. This is the least fun part of the whole thing. Liquid will be hot and it take a lot of squeezing to get that shit out. Dont through your start matierial out yet Place it back in the crockpot and fill back up with water heat until hot and strain again to get any remaining oil stuck in the plant matter. You can now discard the plant matter. So now you have a big pot of water and oil mix. Place it in the refrigerator over night. As the mixture cools the oil will float to the top and solidify. and now you have a big ol chunck of MJ coconut oil.
