Hey guys im buying a 2x4x5 grow tent so that i can start seedlings and veg plants a bit. Will a duct booster fan work? im trying to keep costs down and i will not be using a carbon filter with this tent all im looking for is air exchange.
will this work? this says 265cfm costs 35 dollars down below i will also post the 8 inch version

Here is the 8 inch version that moves 400cfm it only costs 5 dollars more but im worried that it will be way too loud lmfao.

im wondering if this will work for my air exchange? and if it will work should i get the 6 inch version or the 8inch version?

Thank you i will order the 8 inch and some flexible ducting :) the 8 inch moves 400cfm! If its too loud i will try turning the speed down!
I use a Vivosun 8”, it’s not what you’d consider quiet, but it’s not real loud. Mine is in my garage so noise isn’t an issue. I once bought a 4 inch, it was quiet, but didn’t move near enough air. The rule of thumb is your fan should replace all the air in you tent in 5 minutes. The 8 “ will basically do that in 1 minute, so you could go smaller if noise is an issue.
Edit: The 8” is waay overkill, you’ve only got 40 cubic feet in the tent. A six inch will be more than you need, it will be exchanging the air volume of your tent 3x a minute! A 4 inch could even work.

my veg tent will be in my rooms closet so at night i dont want it too be like a dirt bike in my room lmfao but i do want good air exchange im gonna buy the 8 inch duct booster fan and if its too loud ill replace it down the line with something better :) or return it within 30 days :) thank you for your help!
Tent ports are 6”
thank you you might have just saved my arse! the grow tent that ima buy doesnt say what size the duct ports are :( ima look into this before ordering anything because if they are 6 inch i cant buy a 8inch fan for air exchange thanks again man :)

43db in your bedroom..
Nobody is sleeping through that.
Do not buy the 8"

It's a veg tent for seedlings.. you are going to be using very little wattage light wise, so go low on cfm.

I run silent fans in a 8x4s with the cfm is like 270 on those and that's running 1200w of lighting.
Granted they are not duct boosters

Honestly the first thing I'd try is two pc fans , one either end if the duct..
Just get some of that foam matting and make the square fan a circular shape to fit in the duct

thank you for your input! i will be using a 315watt CMH in this tent i have a little setup i pieced together that im excited about using :) im most likely gonna get the 6 inch since you say the 8inch is way too loud :( i will be starting seedlings and vegging small plants in this tent before i throw them outdoors :)
I ran a 6" booster in my 2x4x6 for years without a filter and it worked fine for air exchange. Mine was fairly noisy but was in a spare bedroom so it didn't matter as much.
thank you man this is the type of information im looking for i hope the 6inch is enough because the 8inch seems like it would be too noisy :(

I just put the fan in one of the top vents where the exhaust hose is usually. It fit perfect and I had a wire holding it up. I'd gerry rig a screen or cage on one side if I did it again for filtration. Hope it works out well for you.
