You want the light to be as close as possible without burning the seedling so it doesn't have to stretch.
Second - I've found that a fan is a necessity to help strengthen the little guys & provide much needed air circulation.

And welcome to RIU.

Thanks for the welcome and the responce, I am surprised at how cool this forum is, why I am surprised I have no idea.
Does the wattage of the cfl make a difference with the distance?

And yeah thanks for the info on the fan, that makes a lot of sense.

I use CFL's only for seedlings and mothers.
IDK what wattage they are (lol).
100 watt equivalent I think.

If u plan on staying with cfls rule of thumb is 100 watt for one plant 50 watts for each additional. 2700k spectrum for veg and 5000-6500 k for flowering. Also i keep my cfl bulbs aboit 1-2 inches away or 3-4 inches away

Shit, I got the CFL light spectrum wrong, I thought it was the other way around, oh what a dumb doos I am.

I posted a thread because all of a sudden my plants went into flower, I went from 2 x 23w this was the yellow colour light to 2 x 85w which is a white colour light about a week ago, I am on an 18/6 cycle but for two days in a row I was late by about an hour putting the lights on, so I thought it was that. damn :(. I am buying a timer tomorrow, I robbed the old lady down the street earlier so I am good to go, lol, I am kidding about robbing the old lady, she is to poor anyway.

The spectrum is not nearly as important as the timing of your photo cycle.
Plants "like" one spectrum or the other when in veg/flower, but the wrong one will not cause flowering - in standard photo-period plants (non auto's) your timer is your best friend.

Phew, that was a lot of money down the tubes, so thanks, my daughter wont have to kill me now for wasting money, lol. I can stop the flowering right, by putting back in it's cycle?

And I appreciate the help.

Yes, get them on a solid 18/6 sked & they should go back into veg (providing they are not auto's).

Watch for light leaks (you don't want any) - that will cause weird things to happen too.

Man this growing gets more and more complicated, right so light leaks, I have 2 "air vents" at the bottom of my tent, my cycle is lights on at 18h00 and off at 12h00 so I my plants "sleep" in the afternoon, just like me, those vents at the bottom let in a little daylight, not very much at all but some, that should not effect it right?
Or should I close the vents when it's bedtime for my babies?

EDIT: I dont think they are auto's. I got the seed form good batches of weed I bought a few months ago. It was outdoor because that's how we roll in africa.

You don't want to be trying to remember to open/close your vents twice daily - try to devise some sort of light trap for them (poke around in the diy section for ideas).
For the plants "night" cycle, you want them to see ZERO light - even a bit makes for potential problems.

Thanks bud, good info, the problem I found with googling this stuff is there is so much conflicting info.

When you google (bing - whatever) put rollitup in the search & you will get mostly RIU hits.
What's confusing you ?
Nothing confusing at the momant, wait there is something, about reflectors, I want to take a pic of the reflectors I have, one I built myself, the other I bought for very cheap, in dollars it would be about $6, I can get another one, but I am not too confidant they are working, correctly. Will take a pic and then post, but it's bedtime now for my ladies so I will do it in about 5 hrs. and I havent slept in 2 or 3 days as usual so I need a nap too.

Double post

So I got this pic of the reflectors the one on the left I made out of a lamshade and painted it flat white, the other I bought recently, it has smallish holes around it which worries me abit, I am also not sure if the shape is doing any good. My question is, should I buy another one, like the one on the right. I have a tight budget so I am building my grow room over time. But at $6 dollars well I can afford that. Not the best pic sorry, it was dark when I took this earlier. My tent is a 165x120x75.
