Window sill grow

Day 70 since seed went in the soil (65 days from sprouting).
Main cola is still 70cm high, though the surrounding fan leaves are pointing upwards and increase the height by 3-4cm.

Buds are thickening up nicely now. Some pistils are starting to take on an amber tint. Still producing additional fan leaves from the top of the main cola, as well as sugar leaves.

Now the end of week ten from planting, as a late sprouter this plant is more like nine weeks old. Not sure how much longer to go now until she's ready to cut. Maybe another three weeks or a month?

Day 76 since seed hit soil (71 since sprouting).

The weather has mostly been disappointingly grey, but there was a bit of sun earlier in the week. The plant continues to mature. No stretch noticeable at all this week, it seems most of the energy is going into the fattening buds.

Maybe there is not that much longer to go now - maturing more quickly recently. Quite a number of brown pistils.

Day 84 today (79 from the seed sprouting).

I don't think this has got much longer to go. Most of the pistils are brown and crispy looking, the buds while not super dense, have fattened out a bit more and are very frosty with trichomes. I will give it some more time. I think the next feed in a week's time will be its last. I am going to just give plain water after that, aim to harvest in around two weeks or so.

The pics below were taken at Day 91 from the seed hitting the soil, 86 days from sprouting.

Buds on this plant are fattening up at a decent pace now. Majority of them have mostly just brown pistils now. Exceptions are some smaller branches low down on the plant, which only started growing a few weeks back. There some quite active smaller buds on these lower branches that have new growth, and are also swelling up nicely.

I fed the plant on Saturday with some half strength tomato feed. It will just get plain water now until the chop. Some fan leaves are yellowing, but buds on the lower branches are still growing and fattening up so I'm going to give this one another five to seven days. There's plenty of nice sunshine just now so want it to get the benefit for its final week.

You can't quite see the new growth on the lowest buds in these photos, but you can see several fan leaves yellowing.

I'm reasonably impressed with how this one has got on by the window.

Most of the fan leaves are turning yellow and some are dying off. Today I removed the worst affected, keeping only leaves that still had a fair bit of green.

It would seem this plant is coming to the end of its natural life cycle. I will chop it in four days' time.

Looking good!!! Cool window grow!!! She still looks like she’ll fatten up more. The leaves are just fading out. Let her fade! Don’t need to pull the yellow leaves either. You checking the trichomes on the bud parts of the plant for harvest day?

Thanks man. I just pulled the leaves that went all crispy and had started going brown.

Haven't checked trichomes in a few days, maybe need to do that again. Vast majority of pistils are brown and crispy, except for some lower buds which are still producing white pistils and new growth. Upper buds on main cola and side branches have no white pistils and are just fattening the calyxes.

I take the point though, maybe I need to review the situation on Monday, maybe not quite ready for chop yet...

Haha! Strike that four days deadline. :-o

Just checked the plant more thoroughly. About half the buds - mostly lower down the plant - have produced new white pistils, so there is still quite a lot of active growth going on. That makes me think that the upper buds may still have some fattening to do.

Most trichomes that I could manage to view with the loupe (not easy due to sugar leaves in the way) are clear. Many fan leaves are turning yellow, but there are still younger ones that are a darker green.

So I might be giving this one a feed at the weekend instead. Meaning there could be another ten days or more before harvest, taking it well past 100 days.

It's a slow growing beast this plant, and keeps surprising me. :weed:

Here she is at Day 98 from the seed hitting the soil, though as sprouting took five days the plant is technically 93 days old.

Dunno if you can see in these pics but there is still a fair amount of new growth and white pistils/stamens on many of the buds. Just the uppermost on the main cola and most branches have no new growth. Fattening up nicely.

You can certainly see the further yellowing of older fan leaves. I removed several last week as they had no green left and were getting brown and crispy. I'm just leaving these ones as maybe the buds are sucking nutrients from the leaves in some way, so might be beneficial to leave them on. I've included some shots of lower buds to show the vigorous growth there, like mini plants themselves...

She had half strength tomato feed on Saturday, so chop will be in around a week's time most likely. Will review the situation at the weekend and decide then, depends if there's continued new growth or not. Looks like I may get a fairly decent yield from this wee autoflower.

Quite interesting (for me) to observe the difference in development between this plant and the two that went in the grow cabinet. Slower, gentler growth but also more stereotypical - the leaves yellowing and different rates of growth between upper and lower buds. The plants in the cabinet didn't really produce many yellow leaves (apart from a very few at the bottom of each) except where there was light burn on the taller one.

In other news, today I planted a couple of seeds for the summer grow.

On the window sill will go a Northern Light Auto from Nirvana Seeds.

In the cabinet will go a freebie seed which came from the seed bank where I picked up the RQS seeds for the first grow. The strain is called 'DR AK Auto', from a breeder called Dr Ray, it's a cross between AK-47 and Formula 1 Auto.

Still more new growth in the buds, including white pistils in buds fairly near the top of the central cola too. Incredible really. Older fan leaves continue to yellow and some are now dying off.

Dunno when I'll be harvesting this plant now, she is keeping me guessing. :weed:

Day 6 of the second grow. The Northern Light sprout just broke through the soil yesterday evening, so it's now under a daylight LED bulb until it's big enough to pot up and go on the window sill.

I'm going to try out a fabric pot this time around, and go for larger capacity than with the RQS Quick One which has impressed me with what she managed in just a 3 litre pot. I'm thinking 5 or even 7 litres. Then lots of LST to keep the height manageable. Fabric pot might help too through "air pruning" the roots.

A brief update on the original grow. My wee RQS Quick One is still going great guns
:)
. While most buds have brown pistils and are frosty with trichomes, there is new growth with white pistils on nearly every bud! Fan leaves are yellowing and dying off all over the place, had to defoliate some of them today as they were getting brown and crispy.

On this evidence this plant does not seem ready for harvest by quite some distance. Maybe in a week or ten days' time? I will feed again and review the situation over the next week.

The plant on the windowsill is now 100 days old (since sprouting, Day 105 from the seed going into the soil).

Fan leaves dropping like flies nowadays: shortly after taking these photos I removed a few more that were getting crispy and had no green areas left. Nearly all buds are still showing white pistils, but these are slowly being "swallowed" by the calyxes swelling and growing.

So I'm thinking this is the final phase of the recent growth spurt. Will keep an eye on things, but if no further new growth and these white pistils fade or are eaten up, then maybe this plant will be ready to chop in about a week's time. Decision time will be Saturday, when it's due a feed otherwise.

last year my indoor sunshine gals went about 110 days, which seems like a long duration but it all depends on how much sunshine you get.

don't worry about the yellow leaves, they are what they are, just hang in there and let those buds mature up a bit more, maybe even as much as two more weeks

Thanks for the tips. Good to have the benefit of your experience. Yeah I think the variable sunshine, plus a cooler than usual May, have slowed this plant down a bit maybe.

I don't mind leaving until it's fully ready. If it takes another fortnight, that's fine! :)

A handful of smaller buds, plus the one at the very top of the cola, have no new white pistils. However the rest still have loads, some in several places on the buds. Which would indicate there's still plenty of fattening up to do. Could be another week or ten days still of new growth.

Today was decision day, and I will continue to feed the plant for the week ahead and then review again. Will take pics on Monday at the weekly interval mark.

In other news, the Northern Light Auto seedling has its second set of true leaves. It is doing well under 24 hour "daylight" bulb in the propagator. It is nine days since sprouting today (thirteen since planting the seed), might pot it up into its final pot and set on the windowsill tonight - ready for the expected sunnier, warmer weather that has been forecast for the coming week. Will post pics on Monday at the fortnight mark.
