I don't have it. But I will say it's better than vista...then again what isn't? Vista is such a bloated resource hog.

anything has to be better than vista. I have not tried windows 7 but its still windows. Linux is the way to go. Try Linux mint 7 or 8.

no more gaming either :P sure there's wine and a few other projects, but as anandtech recently showed, it's still pretty much crap, and that's just for the games they could get to work.

i run 7 and vista and well while 7 is nice it just pisses me off in it's stupid layout etc. it's basically over-worked vista. i persoanlly much prefere the vista machine with it's mighty 2gb ram. doesn't playup, lag, lockup or anything more or less than the 7 install, and it's just easier and quicker to use.

i mean how is being able to maximize a window by dragging to the top of the screen, instead of simply clicking the maximize button, a selling feature? even the slightly more advanced drag to the side to compare windows, hardly a massive bonus, and you know what happened when i tried dragging media player onto the second moniter, well the moment the mouse hit the edge of the first screen the media player was automaticlly maximized into half of display 1....

it's sillllly, and i would never pay money for it (ironically vista is the only one that i think i would pay for, purely becuase it can be had cheap due to certain groups of people assuming that what they hear is true and spreading false facts about how shite it is. there ent NOTHING wrong with vista imo :)

Vista seems to use a lot of system resources just idling. I've heard that 7 is faster than Xp or Vista when it comes to that. Vista just seems to bog down my computer. As a student, you can get 7 for $30 I think it would be worth it.

The main reason I don't run anything Linux is because of gaming. It just isn't compatible with any.

I have a machine with XP, one with vista, and a laptop with 7, by far 7 is the best of the lot, much faster and smoother.

haha, my view (being one of the snonbby super computer types :P) is that if it's idling, then i don't need those resources, and if i start to do other stuff, well i know i've got enough in reserve to not care a hootnanny!

one piss annoying thing about 7 is the little arrows that open up programmes feature list thing in the start menu. my whole life i've been acustomed to accessing my computer etc by hitting the windows key then rapidly arrowing down and then right to get the correct thing (hope that's not too vague :P) only now if i do that i don't have a window for my computer open, it's stuck in some random firefox options, such as frequently used sites. i have no beef about that along the taskbar icons, that's handy, although rarely, but on the start meu it is piss annoying :P

I think Linux is for people who hate Microsoft more than they actually like Linux (unless maybe you're a server/network admin from 90s or earlier). I've had some flavor of Linux available for dual-boot for about a decade and it's never been a viable option for being my primary OS...except for a short period after I upgraded to WinME, but I ended up just going back to Win98 SE.

I fuckin HATE vista, somethin makes me think that soon windows 7 will present problems, because it's windows. But if i'm wrong (and I hope I am, for all the people that have windows seven) than great, right on windows.

I think you can fix that. Apparently 7 has some feature that lets you change back to the task bar (maybe more) of Vista or XP.

I've actually have heard that XP is still the fastest on most machines. Then 7 and lastly vista. XP is just very resource light because of how old it is and it lacks the nice interface.
