Can't really say i'm bothered tbh. "megastars" (i say that in irony, i can't name a single song of hers) seem to have this habbit of abusing the crap out of themselves yet they get prefernetial news treatment. I'm more concerned about the hundreds of people being killed in Syria really. guess i'm a bit of a cold bastard, i mean she was the greatest right?
No you're not cold entirely. And no she was not 'the greatest'. But she was great and her life story an epic (though sadly commonly echoed by those outside the public eye). Celebrities live and die having an example made out of them. They receive news coverage because they become like archetypal figures, representing us in the microcosm of the world of showbiz.

...or some shit like that, I'm stoned.

See, I knew some one would care.
The world is cynical, sadly. Whilst I'm glad some are seeing through the materialism of celebrity culture, I hope they don't forget that these figureheads are indeed still real people.

A song about crack.

I have to admit i don't understand how being a sucessful singer makes her a figurehead. Dying campaigning for racial equality, that person might be a figurehead, not a singer/model. If she was some hugely influencial activist and i am simply ignorant of this, forgive me, but i can't consider a singer/model as a figurehead for anything, hell, it's celebrities that are in a way fucking up society..

You can "Pin point "moments in time" with Music , i do this alot ,
Some old music you listen to can bring fond memories,
Maybe this is what she meant,
I was the same with MJ , and Prob will be with Madonna etc...

I often think of celebrities as false heroes.
I don't often think of celebrities at all. I am "off the" gossip "grid", and the magazines at the grocery-store checkout might as well be written in Urdu, considering how little I recognize the names associated with the latest vicarious melodrama that has otherwise cute shopperettes just mesmerized. cn

Yes, I like to watch a good movie every now and then to escape reality but thats about as far as it goes. I pretty much stopped watching sports for the same reason.

the weird thing is i read this on my phone and i think i actually care a little bit.

i always found her voice soothing. she was the first singer i remember thinking "wow" when i heard it as a kid. i think she might even be responsible for my obsession with the sound of the female voice. somehow or another she made some kind of impression on me as a kid.

To be honest, I'm surprised she made it to 48. After Bobby Brown, crack, and heroin, her making it to 48 is the equivalent of rainbows shooting out of my ass every time I eat guacamole.

Special treatment on the news? No. Special Treatment Center named after her? Yes.
