Looks delicious! What type of LED's you running?
2 x 300 watt quad band pro series, 4 x 50 watt 3000k led spotlights. Planning on upgrading for next grow but my friend gave me the panels and I'm averaging .75 g per watt on the photo plants so the led results are great. I wonder what I could do with some all Cree panels. Looking into DIY panels, just not sure which Cree chips I wanna go with. My panels need more penetration so I can stop being a lst maniac.

Great link man, I'll be looking into this soon, 5w chips should give me better penetration than the current 1w that are in my panel now. My panels put off too much heat honestly, without the exhaust fan my temps can go way into the 100f mark. I know I have to have some kind of exhaust but I shouldn't need my 440 CPM at Max speed just to stay in the 80's. Can't complain too much though since they were Free.

By itself, this is a false statement. Penetration depends on lens angle. If you want to reach the lower buds, go with side lighting

5W diodes with 120 degree lenses will out penetrate 1W diodes with 120 degree lenses. You could potentially get as much penetration out of a 1W diode with the right lens, probably 30-40 degrees, but then your coverage is complete shit compared to the 5W.

This is why a lot of companies are going bigger; they can use a larger degree lense to maintain great coverage, but still have decent penetration because the light itself is more intense.

A couple of household globes might not be the one to get into those bushes. Its fine for your setup my fuzzy green friend but we are looking at 2 very different grows here
This is true, I have a 4x4 space and it is packed out, so with that in mind I come to the conclusion that I need better penetration with maximum light coverage, I know I could use CFL's or T5 tubes or LED tubes but this is just not optimal with the fact that I need to be able to move the plants around, I pull them out of the grow tent when I water and having to dodge tubes or bulbs while moving everything around would make it quite difficult and raise the possibility of me breaking something. So with that in mind, we need bigger, more powerful LED chips with lens for penetration but still able to cover the 4x4 space.

Basically that is all the individual diode tube tech is, but you need to affix somehow. I doubt you could string it due to tension in the matrix.

Now, it would be easy to make a trellis out of say, Balsa, or some other light weight wood, but the under canopy globes work fine

Thanks for the link/idea Chonik ... It has nothing to do with horticulture, so the 35/28's are perfect for my need.

Edit: The other reason I chose 3528's, my new project will be run off of batteries, so the extra mA/amps from the 5050's would be extra weight.

I'm going to stick to 12/12 for a bit, and work on maximizing the yield on each of the plants. Don't have to worry about penetration if the plants are only 2 feet tall! :D Well, and I have almost 1000W in a 4x4 area, hehehe!

Are you using a room or a tent because I have no idea how you are hanging up 1000 watt's of led without your tent collapsing unless you shelled out 500 bucks for a gorilla grow tent. Then again my tent was Free too so it could just be a cheap POS. I had 2 x 150w hps hanging up in there with all the LEDs but I had a tent collapse so out they went. All the plants came out fine except for a few burnt leaves but still, falling hps is hella scary, could have easily started a fire. Anyways, I'm always harvesting way more than I need, I'm just being greedy and wanting to get the Max I possibly can. I'll keep following you guys lead, without reading most of your journals I wouldn't know half as much as I know now!

In the past you would be right. Also what's your def of 'tree'?

If it included a 8ft tall x 5-6ft diameter plant, you could build an expandable "Yurt' style frame with 6 evenly distributed 5-6ft 1 X 4s placed vertically on top of a frame of same wood and of course a cap on top. To this affix a sharply pitched roof of same design which could be hung from the ceiling and lowered when needed, Details to be filled in by builder, but the bottom frame could be designed to slide closer together when plant is young and pulled out slowly as it gains in girth.

Inside each pillar place for a total of 12 tubes vertically = ~ 240w or 120w coming from each side, and have no problem penetrating 2-3 ft from the sides of the plant.

This leaves the top with potentially another 12 tubes or 240 watts dispersed evenly over the canopy, as opposed to a single led panel centered over the canopy.

I imagine that 480 watts would grow a fine tree, or 3-4+ fine smaller trees (6 x 3) in the same space. Anybody want to build one, and start a thread?

My tent hold 4 lights just fine! I have a gromedics tent. They're really nice quality.

Sure you can grow trees with LED - it just doesn't work that well. I grew 5-6 foot tall plants, and they weren't bad, but I ended up with a lot of snickle fritz at the bottom of the plant.

Making custom enclosures is more than most people want to do, so if you're buying panels and hoping to hang them from the ceiling and have them penetrate large plants out of the box, it won't work that well.

I have them hanging on the sides of my tent as well, and it works great but most people want to buy a single panel and hang it above the plants, not four or five panels and hang them all over the place.

I hear ya. LED globes for under canopy is a pretty simple and inexpensive way to pump up yield

Here's ~ 39 watts in action. They are both RP (remote phosphor) provide ~ 360* coverage.

I simply rotate the netpot lids 180*s once a day

With flaps open ~ 82*, with flap mostly closed, 84*

I have old computer fans. Gonna hit Lowes/HD for an aluminum elbow that I can affix the fan to for an exhaust. It should fit perfectly inside the elbow built into the tent

expecting that to cool things down, not that 82-84 is 'bad' but a bit too high or flower

I took these this morning

Now putting ice bottles in for 1o minute intervals to cool the nutes
