They do love to get airflow; adding aeration and crumpled up paper adds tiny spaces for them to move & breathe. Perlite and shredded paper/cardboard helps lighten up heavy organic matter. Ripped up egg cartons are good for this too. You are right you don’t want super tightly packed trays but then again I’ve never heard them complain & we have been doing this for years…

For real tho...I'm not worried Richard you have also given good advice i believe what u say...I feel like sum ppl just like to complain lol
