Would a 5000btu window AC with 240 watts trip breaker?

I was wanting to downsize from my current 3x3 tent with 315 w cmh to a 2x4 with 240 w quantum board for the summer. My room gets pretty hot though and I have a window 5000btu ac. I was wondering if I would trip my 15 amp breaker if I grow as well, I have never done it in the summer so I’m not sure

Depends on what load you already have on that breaker. Look at all the specs on everything that is running on that breaker. If it doesn't exceed 15 amps then it shouldn't trip.

Best not to exceed 80% load if in continuous use, so 12 amps max to be on the safe side.

1500 watts ? I dont think it will that close to it if that’s what I can use

240qb , in-line fan, various fans inside, window ac, tv ,router ,tv box,and maybe phone and or laptop

As others have stated, you need to figure out exactly how much is already running on that circuit. Also, no way a 5k btw AC is only running at 240 watts, I'd recheck that, and also find out how much it draws initially when you turn it on-high powered appliances have an initial surge of power draw to turn on, and another for maintenance. You shouldn't exceed 80% of a circuit for long term use, as Nixs said.

that's what i thought too: 240 w for an A/C seems way off.

No it shouldnt, what is the start up amperage ? The paper work will tell you the maximum it's pulling but your tent without the ac isn't pulling much wattage or amps. Can you boil 2 or 3 kettles at same time"electric kettles" ? If so you be cool bro !

I know running for longer times makes a difference but ac is on and off most the time, not continuous full amp n watts ! Not much heat needed extracting, small space not many btu's !

I still feel you need to upgrade your power system by the time you get everything running and tweaked you’ll need the extra amps to successfully grow. Most of your homes now days utilize 200 amp service with 20 amp breakers which if you have 22-14 gauge wire running you’ll be just fine. Not trying to start a fire here. Been in this situation many years ago when growing in a mobile home.

You should read the complete comments no one’s trying to start a fire just suggesting he update to 200 amp service throughout his home which carry 20 amp breakers. Maybe I should’ve made myself more clear in the first post
