Hey guys I know I'm new here but I've been reading all the info for the past few months, so when I ask this question I haven't found any help on it yet, so here goes. I have a drip sys. for veg and a flood and drain for flowering. Can I use containers that have holes/slats all the way up the sides of it? I basically want to know if the direct light can ruin exposed roots. I'm asking because we have them here at work and there a hhmm..free, and I was thinking that it would help with better oxygen flow. Oh yeah I was thinking of using coco and hydroton. Any advice would be awesome...I'll get some pics up of the room soon.

Many many thanks guys, Does everyone just use containers with holes on the bottom. we have some with holes half way up...I may use them and the cover the table with some poly to keep it dark and algea free, or just use regular ones with the bottom drains.

Yes you could do that.

Coco is a fine medium all by itself. Mixing it with hydrotron would make it harder to recycle I used my coco for mulch around my out door flower beds. It will also be easier to move from drip to flood and drain with just the cococoir. VV

Actually the rockwool hold more water and for longer. Not that the coco doesn't hold it, it does, just not as much. One of the interesting things about it is that the coco is better insulation for your root system if you have a temporary heat spike for just that reason. It doesn't hold the water as much so it can keep the roots cooler. Wet insulation doesn't insulate it conducts. VV
