Xanax addiction, need some advice.

Hey guys, I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, and was subbed Xanax to help with it.

Xanax is great, it completely got rid of my anxiety, however slowly I became addicted. I would take .5mg per day, but eventually I would be taking 4 mg a day, sometimes more.

I've realized that enough is enough, and need help quitting. I tried only taking 3.5mg yesterday and had horrible shakes, I couldn't sleep, and I had such a bad craving for the drug I took some more, and I felt better.

I was wondering if marijuana could help with these symptoms. It hurts everywhere when I try to quit, and i'm nauseous.

Any ideas?

Your going to have a horrible time trying to sleep, marijuana before bed might help, good luck. Do you drink a lot? if you don't drink maybe a drink to but if your a drunk then just try to stay sober

yea benzos can get ya hooked pretty quick. Honestly man, talk to ur doctor that gave u the script initiallly. They are there to advise you and its all confidential (plus its his fault, xanax is like one of the strongest benzos). Weed, yeah it might work or u might just realize u get higher when u smk and do xanax-making the xan habit worse (plus paranoia and anxiousness increases on weed for alot of people soo making ur anxiety worse). Your doc may prescribe some less habbit forming benzo and a regimine to wean yourself off them.
Avoid as many stimulants as poss: coffee, tea, soda, and cigs etc.. are a good way to rid of excess stimulants in ur diet helping with the anxiety.
Get some help man its nothing to be embarassed about and is the responsible thing to do(may save your life too), 4mg isnt that bad of an addiction but xan knocks u on ur ass and eventually itle get worse, good luck.

i was addicted to xanies for about 2 years as a recreational drug. ganja and lots of sleep got me through it. I was clean in about two months. You gotta stay high as fuck like ready to fall asleep high all the time. Lots of naps especially whne aches are coming on. If you have a job its going to be hard. I lost my job while cleaning up. I gae in once or twice but a good friend kept me going. So get one of those if you dont have one already. Preforably one that can kick your ass if necessary....it helps snap you back to reality.

I'm not judging just trying to keep it real, your going to be a mess for a few days, i'm saying if your not a regular drinker or smoker a drink and a smoke an hour or so before bed might help you to be able to sleep or at least be comfortable enough to rest. benzo's can be nasty to come off and can give you 'nightterrors' if you start feeling to bad go to a hospital

I would try to cut back a little every week till eventually you are back to the original dosage. Your body has become too used to the drug. Marijuana has withdrawal symptoms too, I learnt that the hard way when I went Cold Turkey. I couldn't sleep, didn't eat for 2 days and then had virtually no appetite, headaches, etc.

Xanax is a nasty benzo as it has a short half life requiring you to take more once a tolerance is noticed. You have a couple of choices, slowly taper off like I did, or switch to a longer lasting benzo like Tranxene. A word of caution though...you will build a tolerance to this drug as well. I have extreme Anxiety and have been through the gamut. If you need help with things that might work..shoot me a pm.

Hey man, you can do it! Just stick it out. Make sure you find things to do, not just sitting around thinking about xanax. Smoke a lot of herb, it will help you relax.

Good Luck bud. I too suffer from anxiety and would much rather be addicted to my prescription than to have anxiety. tell your psychiatrist that your perscription isnt strong enough. as long as you have a steady supply of them then you dont have to worry about the shakes or your anxiety. thats where im at right now! i will take them till the day i die.

AlSO if u smoke some bud shortly after you take ur meds then it should amp up the feeling..

OR drink one beer with a 1mg dose and it will feel as though u took 4 mg.

Not trying to sound judging or anything, but I like being in control of what I consume. I don't like not being in complete control of my actions, it pisses me off.

This is horrible advice, please do not partake in anything that has been posted here.

You just advised someone ovb struggling with benzo dependency to take more, get stronger meds, mix and match to suite your day....wtf man, sounds like u need to take some controll over you own life and not give adivice to others. Idc what anyone says, pills are made to help/cope with temporary conditions not be some perminant soloution. Simply dosing to satisfy your crave is the deffinition of being addicted to the drug instead of using the drug to help you overcome your problem.
Mind over matter guys cmon

i would seriously consult a doctor about getting of xanax. you can get seizures or die if you try to quit a benzo addiction cold turkey.

i was in the same boat, been on xanys for like 8 years! got off of them this year they tried to give me all these other pills to get off pills. i said fuck that and would take just enough to not have shakes, headache etc.. got it down to like a peach, then halves. it took awhile and alot of chron but didnt hardly go thru withdraw. good luck

I'm sorry to hear about that. If it's really a subscription then maybe you should talk to your doctor about it and ask him what you can do to not have such bad withdrawals.

If it's not a prescription and you're just buying them from people off the street then you're just gonna have to stick through it. I don't know much about Xanas other than I thought it subdues people and makes them just fall asleep, I didn't really think of it much as a "fun drug" but that's besides the point.

Weed should help you out though. It will help take the edge off and help you sleep later on in the night. Weed does wonders. If I were you I would try to get my hands on something decent instead of the shitty weed becuase if you're using it to deal with a withdrawal you're gonna want something that makes you happy :)

Hey dude, buy some kratom, its going to help with the cravings and interfere with the reward system when you fail, also its legal in most of the west.

Irieie is right. Xanax is physically addictive and dangerous to quit cold turkey. You have to gradually taper off your dose untill you don't need any more.

After your off the xanax, I think the right strain of weed could definetly help with anxiety.

Tell the doctor that prescribed you the xanax you have an addiction to it. I'm sure they'll be willing to help you out. Also treating one drug addiction with another drug addiction is not a good idea. Normally, I don't consider smoking weed a drug addiction, but if you have substance abuse problems smoking weed chronically could end up being a problem in it's own and eventually get you back on other drugs.
