Zombie Kush in Living Soil

Had to take a few fan leaves off to open up some of the hidden tops to the lights. Tucked a bunch to help fill the scrog net. Hoping that the thing will be full enough to flip them next weekend or so.

Currently the light is still at 50% power giving off 400-800μmol across the entire canopy which I am happy with for vegging.

So this morning I gave my plants 4L each of a tea I made yesterday. Each 4L batch contained ⅓ cup of each Bokashi Pro Gro and Gaia Green 4-4-4 veg fertilizer.

This is the first feeding the plants have gotten this grow as the soil has been sustaining them quite nicely up to this point but I figured I had better start building up the soil a bit before I switch to the flowering cycle next week.

Probably gonna take some clones today or tomorrow as I want to hopefully find a good mother this run.

I honestly think my soil is working better now than it did last run, just guessing things have broken down more and are ready for the plants to take what they want. In my opinion, it is working just as well as any combination of Chem ferts I have used in the past.

Everything looked strong in your last update. Are you familiar with soy bean amino acids? I’m no master, a novice at most, but I use Soybean Amino Acid in my compost teas. It is completely water soluble, so it is different than the soybean meal. It is usually the NPK ratio 14-0-0.

A little update, the plants were flipped to 12/12 on April 20th. Started seeing buds forming on April 30th or so.

I had to add a second scrog net to handle the taller branches. These things really stretched alot when I flipped them. Had to remove quite few fan leaves to open up more bud sites.

Currently running at:
Temp 85⁰f
Humidity 72%
Lighting 75% power
PPFD ~1250μmol
CO² 1500ppm

I didn't start seeing buds forming until about 10 days after I flipped the girls. That was 11 days ago. These things are going special I think, hoping to break 3 lbs from the 4 plants. Last crop I can just under at 2.7lbs. I am starting to see 2 distinct phenos one is shorter, indica looking the other is a more stretchy sativa looking plant. I just hope they finish around the same time.

Lastnight I got bored, started cruising the inter webs and ended up ordering some Malawi from Ace Seeds via The Attitide Seed Bank since Ace won't ship to Canada.

Its one of my bucket list strains but have not been ready to commit 15-20 weeks to flowering out this strain.

Gonna grow the Malawi out after the current crop is done. I am looking forward to the adventure.

Getting close to chop time for 3 of the 4 Zombie Kush in the room.

I have notice that there are 3 very distinct phenos in this grow.

The first pheno is a green version of zombie kush that looks to be a short green indica with sone mild fox-tailing. The calyx's are noticeably still growing and the trichomes are getting forming a nice frosty covering over the buds. I have one plant of this pheno.

The second pheno is very different and like the first pheno consists of just a single plant. I have grown this strain a few times from seed and have never come across this one before. It looks to be more of a sativa with a fair amount of fox-tailing but the caylx's are developing quite nicely. However this thing isn't anywhere even close to being ready to harvest. Not as many trichomes as the other two phenos but still a good amount of them. We'll see where this thing goes.

The third and final pheno looks to be what I would consider to be the best representation of what Zombie Kush should look like based on my past grows. I have always considered the purple pheno to be the best tasting, best looking and strongest pheno in the past. But I guess we'll find out in the smoke report at the end of the grow. This pheno is close to being done, but the calyx's trichomes are still doing their thing, so I'll reassess in a week or so.

So a little update. I harvested on July 24th. About 13.5 weeks of flowering time. Breeder said 9-10 weeks but these things really packed on weight after week 10, so once again do not trust breeder info.

When I harvested, I did not trim anything and hung to dry for 12 days in my grow room with temp at 62⁰f and humidity at 65%. I find this gives me a longer drying time allowing things like chlorophyll to break down a bit before the fully dry. In my opinion it makes for a better, smoother burn and taste and helps preserve terpenes.

After it was dry, I trimmed it. Pretty stickey stuff. Had to keep a bottle of alcohol nearby to clean my fiskars every 20 minutes or so.

Final numbers:
Plant # 1 - 396 grams
Plant #2 - 330 grams
Plant #3 - 439 grams
Plant #4 - 517 grams (my first 1lb indoor plant)

1,682 grams/3.70lbs.

grams/sq.ft:
3.3'x8' grow area = 26.64sq.ft.
1,682÷26.64= 63.14grams/sq.ft.

grams/watt:
3x460w lights @ 75% power
(3x460)×0.75= 1,035 watts
1,682÷1,035= 1.63gr/watt

Pretty happy to break the 1 pound plant for the first time indoors. I came close to reaching it on another but pretty happy. The smoke is smooth, nice taste profile.

I will be starting a new grow journal for my next grow, Malawi by Ace Seeds.

Congrats on breaking 1 pound! Incredible. What about the high, how is it effect-wise?

Sorry for the delay, I wanted it to cure for a week before giving any type of smoke report.

I have grown this strain a few times before and this is one of the better grows I have had with it. The ash and burn are clean, light grey ash, smooth, when you light it up you smoke it to the very end and leaves you wanting more. The taste is very good, the usual Zombie profile of musky, leather and fuel. However I did notice a little pine in this crop that I didn't get in my previous zombie runs.

3 of the plants had average bag appeal but one plant had amazing bag appeal with a very dark purple colour and nice dense buds.

The stone is good, a fairly hard hitter, not the strongest but pretty good. I would really be surprised if it wasn't in the 20%+ range. Not much for burn out but if you smoke it all day long, it can leave you feeling drained by bed time.
