13/11 light schedule during flowering

Outdoors, the plant senses that the days are getting shorter and when the photo period gets short enough it starts to bloom/flower/bud. For some indicas that trigger may be at 14 or 13 hours, even. The reason people use 12 hours is just because almost all strains will start to bloom in that photo period.

Ok so I'm not sure what strain or genus it is I'm thinking its sativa possibly? I cant post pics at the moment but when I can I will in my journal. So any advice on nutes? I'm using expert gardens plant food its a 15-30-15 mix pr should I order some ff nutes for bloom?

Not a lot of people do it but if you have a kick ass lighting system 8 hours on 16 off will make plants bud faster and finish quicker. As a "former" outdoor guerilla grower i would cream my pants if found a plot with 6 hours of direct sun. So i try to recreate nature indoors. I use 2 T-5 sunblaze 4 foot 6 bulb fixtures 6500 k for vertical side lighting and a 150 hps horizontally in my 3 plant grow. Nice mixed spectrum i might add. Just a fan to circulate air no intakes exhaust or charcoal filters. This set up makes DENSE buds. I only grow indoor during the winter !!!!! No bugs and a nice cool room and i stay hi all summer. I move 3 plants in and out in 8 hour shifts 5 gallon pots. I have a dark room that gets to the 50's so they enjoy a nice warm roots radiance mat. I get lovely fall colors too.

Ok well now I have a new issue I noticed today that I have some pistils turning brown is this due to stress, humidity or what? As well I have a set up of 2 6500k CFL bulbs mixed with 2 2700k CFL bulbs in a 18 inch x 18 inch grow space it's over 8 feet tall the box is can't afford more space due to the fact I live in apt complex. But it has enough room and I found out it's sativa. Will it need more darkness to flower than 13/11 lighting?

How far along in flowering are you? Pistals are going to wilt at some point as they age. I would just do 12/12.

I'm two weeks almost 3 into flowering! And it's sativa which I have read and heard can take a long time to mature in the bloom phase! As u can see from my profile pic she looks good dont she????

With that set up i think 13/11 will work fine but at week 6 drop the hours to finish her off.

It's not generally necessary, but some people will drop it by an hour for the rest of the cycle at some point during flowering, some will gradually drop it all the way to a 10/14 cycle by removing an hour of light a week until it's ready. Just by looking at the leaves your plant is a hybrid, probably a bit sativa heavy. I don't think dropping it at all will make much difference, but opinions and methods vary. Good luck. If you can add a few more 2,700k CFL.

So what if I switch to all four 2700k cfl bulbs u think that might do the trick a bit more?

You're going to want to do 11/13 or 10/14. The flowering hormone accumulates during the dark period, so you want a shorter but still productive light period. Seriously, don't flower with a longer light period if you want optimal bud.

When pistils turn brown early it is usually a sign of a root problem... from overwatering, salt build up, bugs...etc...
One of my eight girls has some pistils turning brown already and im only 4 weeks into bloom. Not a big deal. At the rate theyre turning she will still produce well before finishing earlier than the rest. Other than that this one is the best looking of the bunch...

plants produce ethylene, a hormone that promotes ripening. there have been experiments with placing fruit peels(apple and banana, both high in ethylene) in contact with seeds before germination that result in the seeds being 50% more likely to be female. they also tested the results on flowering plants. it can cause early ripeness, but you suffer in yields and quality, the plant simply doesn't have time to achieve the results that would happen naturally. when you add enough ethylene to have an effect, it also triggers an increase in the production of abscisic acid, which is what the plant uses to self prune dead or unhealthy leaves. so you can cause premature buds to "ripen" but they will be weak, and the process will probably cause plant wide senessence and leaf drop
