I have always thought that something like coffee cans would be the ultimate in doing this little micro grows or SOGS. The increase in yeild would likely be pretty dramatic and the increase in space isn't. Or if you could find something that was the same or close the same width as a cup, but maybe twice as tall.

"something that is the same width, and twice as tall?"

You pretty much just exactly described those 2L green plastic bottles that Sprite and Cyders come in. That's what i was trying to say earlier, they are pretty much the same width as those cups, except way taller. Also you can check you root growth, and health, anytime without ever damaging the roots themselves.

If someone seriously wants to get serious results, with something that's already lying around your house. Try a 2L green, plastic bottles, with the top cut off, and few holes punched in the bottom. It's the greatest grow container ever! (for small plants), and it's free.:hump::peace:
I think more people should try this.

I might try something silly like that, but light kills roots. I would be afraid that on top of cramping the room in the root space you're also going to allow light to the roots on the sides of the bottle? I'll probably wrap the bottles in something, but I may give this a serious try here real soon. Not from seeds though, I would just drop some clones in them and see how it goes. Just doesn't seem like I'll have better results this way than with rockwool cubes in hydro. But I've been wantting to go back and try soil again and this might be an easy way to see if I enjoy it.

I'm not sure if you've looked at the photo yet, but I'm one step ahead you on "wrapping something around the bottle". You'll see I simply left the Okanagan label on the bottle. You can even still view the roots through the bottom.

If you've ever heard of people using green light bulbs to access their grow room in darkness, the green tint of the bottle protects the roots in the very same way. Even bottles that I completely peeled off the labels suffered no light damage. Trust me people, this idea isn't "silly," unless you count silly-smart.

Plus there's usually hardly any light down where your roots are anyway. I'm not a newbie talking out my ass, these things really work. I think they work better than store bought pales because they're strong, light, compact, and your able to watch your healthy white roots growing. You can know exactly when to transplant your plant, or just get a close-up look at what growing roots look like.

I know what healthy roots look like, and I would know if they were suffering from light exposure. I know it sounds f'n crazy to be able watch your roots grow using a soil medium but it seriously works like a charm.

I'm aware of what hydro can achieve, I want to use bubbleponics for my next grow. Yes, hydro is better than soil. These pots would obviously be better suited for someone interested in growing in soil.

I might give it a real go. That way I can just put the light at the top of my 4x4 tent and just pack it full of these bottles with clones and lollipop them.

I haven't gone it in a long time, but I think I can fit quite a few in there and with a 600w or 1000w light could probably pull a really decent yeild.

Nice man, you should really do it. What you described is how I dreamed about growing with these 2Ls. I only use about 250 watts so I ended up doing something bit different, and wraped 8 plants around a 130 watts CFL.

Those bottles are only 4" wide! If you have 4 x 4 foot tent you could fit 12 rows of 12, meaning you potentially fit 144 plants . But that would be fucking insane, but so would the yield. You would need lots of clones. I was going to try it in a 2 x 2 foot space with like 25 plants maybe. But somebody told me I would get bigger buds with larger pots, which I didn't find to be true, and ended up doing 8 females in the end. I still kinda wish I would have tried the "mega-SOG" using these 2Ls, with maybe 25+, 12" plants. The yield would be crazy.

I'll probably do it AFTER my next grow. I'll have tons of clones and I have to start saving up plastic bottles. It'll be interesting, probably more annoying than anything else though trying to water all of them. I'll probably have to set them up on a drip watering system on timers. Just goin gto be alot of hosing.

Pretty impressive grow Michoacan considering what you had to work with. I think I may clean off the ping-pong table tonight and get a lil' sumthin started thanks to you.
I can't wait any longer for necessary funds to buy new lights, rubbermaid boxes, pumps and the like. It sucks to read the forum and see all these amazing grows and not be able to participate but I think I may have a viable option now. Thanks.
Its good to hear that I inspired someone!:weed:

Remembered my question,

Is that just the strain or did you keep the light fairly far from your plants because they look very lanky and tall.
Actually they were all between 4-6 inches and pretty bushy. I was suprised when they wouldnt stop growing. The lights were about 1-3 inches the entire time of growth. Here's some pix the day before flowering.

Hell yea! I cant wait to pull them out and see how little dirt is left.

I would have to say that watering is the worst part about this method. Especially when i started and they were a few inches tall but the leaves covered the cup, i couldnt imagine during flowering. I trimmed the lowest nodes on most of them to make it easier to reach through and not have to move them.

BTW Im harvesting within the next few days, so the lights will be shut off for a day or two and then they will be chopped.

After cutting a few down, I found some seeds in one that I thought had not been hermy so some females got pollenized and some herms just pollenized themselves. Only had time to harvest half but tomorrows another day! :weed:
I have cut down 6 with a wet weight of 200.3g! I was thinking everything was going to weigh about 2oz but I guess not.
Sorry about the pix but its a lot faster this way for me.

On the IC Mag website (International Cannagraphic Magazine), there is this guy named Dr. Bud Green Jeans (something of that nature), he uses a cab with 42 watt cfls with 16 oz. cut plastic soda bottles, for his root mass, and he does a great job with yield and organic nutrients. I say that those are some finely grown buds outta what you got. Keep it up. Also, consider zero veg and 12/12 from rooting from clones (provided you cut some) to minimize stem growth and un necessary length. Also, take a look at SeeMoreBud's book about growing 8 oz. from 3 or 4 plants with nothing but cfls. It's a wealth of information, and the way you're doing it, it seems you have a good grip on how to grow dense nugs, just definitely consider the 12/12 from clone stage. It's really beneficial.

Well I finally got everything finished and the results are in.

Right around 6oz total and dry. I hung everything in the box with a fan blowing on it and it was crispy in 2 days. bongsmilie
