If I was designing them I would make them 1' square panels, or slightly under, like 11", with edges that snap together. Being a solid panel would optimize the heat sink effect. 70w is just about right for 1 sq ft so they would still be the same wattage as the strips. The edges that snap together would be like a solid frame, so when you snap a bunch together they form one large firm square panel. You could call them LED tiles.

I am pretty sure they dont make 4 foot LEDs is because they are competing against 4 foot floro fixtures whose bulbs are less than 4 foot. Plus most of the world is metric and a meter is a common measurement.
In fact this strips are made to competing against flouros and they are called tube replacements. There are ton's of 2 and 4ft LED tubes which all use this typ of strips.. just with different LED's.
BTW,
Standard Samsung and Bridgelux strips are 560 and 1120mm to match this tubes.

I believe, he means Samsungs gen.3 F-Series strips, 72pcs/2ft and 144pcs/4ft, they are listed on digikey but not available currently, digikey replies, they are overdue and should arrive in april, so only a matter of time when they come available.

And they are also listed as double row strips, 144 or 288pcs per strip(2 or 4ft.).

So one double row 4ft. strip could replace a QB288.(needs 46v CC, ~17400lm@2,28A/65°C, 168lm/w, 103w net., 180lm/w @700mA )

These strips seems to be very promising,

Im still waiting when they get available to place an order as soon as possible.

I think what OMS is trying to do with the strip grid is take advantage of the even intensity of light that strips can deliver to a given canopy size. Rather than concentrate the emitters on a small PCB footprint which then requires a certain height from the canopy to spread the light to the edges, he/she (it is "Mother" Sativa after all) is spreading the emitters out, which will allow the strip array to be placed as close to the canopy as needed to deliver the full desired intensity, but more importantly will deliver that intensity evenly from center to edge. Single source high-intensity lamps, whether they are HIDs, COBs, or even 300-diode small footprint boards can't replicate that even intensity unless chained in a multi-lamp setup in a large production environment.

i have another hlg 240 i will hook up to the 10 strips /4 x 4 grid..
then the wattage will be 600w.
any of the commercial led lights out there that are made for 4 x 4 areas
do not seem to be 4 x 4 in size..

that could be because of ergonomics ..it may however be for the smaller area
delivering concentrated cumulative light works better
a true 4 x 4 grid really spreads it evenly..

and my previous thought of trying less than 600w
is put on hold..i am noticing cumulative effect of the strips..
at a distance we are not in serious umol land like under the 6 x 22 panel
i can see this grid getting close to the canopy and flowering 4.5 x 4.5 ft..
which adds a fair bit more real estate..but it does dilute the photons..with the 12. mm spacing
and hopefully keeping it 6" from the tops will help
will update when i hook up the 240 and get up to 600w

well said Baud..
the even [and diluted] spread may or may not be the best thing to do..

just ordered two x 600w meanwell 48b and four 320 w 48a to get at morenof these strips and panels

in process of switching over from HPS[and trying to get out fishing]

..this sure is the best time of year for both ..up here

Could sell them as individual 4' lights, using these channels, and diffusers if wanted. Then people could put a few between the plants, or under them, to prevent larf. If they have to get a 4' package shipped anyway, might as well get 4' channel heat sinks with them. Basically like a 4' fluorescent replacement but with decent wattage and efficiency LEDs instead of crappy ones. Could put drivers in each one if you could find a good deal on bulk, those long skinny ones. I guess it would be too hot with the driver to put between plants though. But people could take them out and mount them remotely.

These lenses might actually be helpful, paired with the right channel to get a good beam angle. The 120 degree beam angle of the bare LEDs is a little wide. Apparently the lengths are 1 and 2 meters. Maybe a 1 meter strip would be better than 4'. People with 3' tents could mount them sort of diagonally so they'll fit and people with 4' tents have a few inches elbow room.

quickly hydro galaxy par metered" @ "6", "12" ,"18"

....kind of 600, 500, 400 readings

..gonna take it and put it over some plants and see what the real world test does..

but this configuration is surely even spread out light..

we'll see how it does

Yes but do you have some lenses? Cuz with lenses you got yourself some intense light beams, muchacho.
 
i am a serious grower not an expert..
i learned piles here..and am grateful.. i learned alot here and from buying the estonian linear strips
please forgive the transgression of wanting to have a biz
it has taken a fair bit of work
for the last three years i have been working at getting relationships
it has taken a zillion hours..but i was polite and stuck with it
with various company's..for led panels /strips,drivers, ratchet hangers,tents,ip65
heatsinks ,non water proof ones..and mini dab rigs
again sorry..i do not think i am anybody special and do know where i came from
hope to get them sold retail so

i will assemble some 70w strip frames on this 4 x 3 ft frame and test the distance between the 8 strips....
i will grab the other frame ihave else where that will let me assemble a 4 x 4 ft grid
and try them at 500-600w for 10 strips
What board is that?
