Any problems using HLG-240h-C1750 to run 4 CXB3590's @ 36v?

Point taken.

You've got me thinking about running parallel strings of 2 COBs in series now. I know generally speaking running parallel is a no-no but what if you ran soft by just running an additional COB (ideally with close or identical voltage) wIred in parallel to each of your existing CoBs. Your heatsink would be sufficient but your spacing might be kinda wonky.

So instead of 4 cobs @ 2a each you had 8 cobs @ 1a each. Would also work if you wanted to try and go the 350ma route on a 200w driver correct?

well im running over 1.4 A, where the 185 tops out.

efficiency is lower but im getting 20% more PAR output from each COB (but going from 56 to 53% efficient of course. eventually as i get more cobs ill run them softer on more efficient drivers. for right now i need bang for my buck.

so yes efficiency is important, but is one of many factors. thanks for calling attention to the low efficiency at 115V, ill run it at 240V instead

I'm building a veg lamp with 36v 3590's @ 350ma and doing it that way means I can build a 200w or even 250w version.

In your case, you can add a cob in parallel with each of your existing CoBs and get a bump in efficiency without replacing the driver or heatsink.

not sure what the advantage would be over 8 in series on a 700ma or 1050 dimmed

echo my thinking too. exact amundo

how much you get em for bobby G?
$75+CA tax+shipping. cant remember how much shipping was ($20 or less i beleive).

jerry said it would be expensive to ship these so that seemed reasonable, esp since they had stock

my friend who mfrs a popular brand of led fixtures said that the amount of knock off diodes going around china right now is astronomical. best to stick to official channels or known good suppliers like jerry

ive heard of fake meanwells before but despite ive never hear of straightroad this CA company that stocked the whole meanwell line seemed like a safe bet

Straightroad is legit. They had a couple 240s back when they were first shipping. I bought them and asked if they would start supplying. They will be ordering 240H-C1750 25 at a time and 240H-C2100 10 at a time. If there's enough interest in the 2100s they'll bump that up to 25 per order as well.

next time you talk to them tell them there is interest id be in for 4

I told them there is a DIY community that is interested in them and that's what prompted them to stock on the website. If they're not listed in stock give them a call and ask how long it will be. If they don't have any in stock they're already some on order. I know someone here purchased 4 or 5 from them a couple days back.

Right on. They also have 10 CXB3590 3500 CD 36V but price is 64$. I told them if they could offer a good price they could sell a lot. I even told them what their far East competition was selling them for. When they got back in touch they said they would list for $60 but that didn't happen for some reason.

i was offered cobs too and was not shy and told them thats not competitive with the $46 price from overseas. they said "well what would get you to buy them". and I said "well, they all come from the same place, so i have no reason to pay more than $46 each"

Lol @ "what would get you to buy them?"

What kind of cracked up idiot salesperson asks a customer that question after hearing that their competitor is beating their price by $20?

"Uhhmm well how bout a 2fer?"

Omg. Straightroad had 4 hlg-240h-c1750bs 6 hours ago. They're gone now. My dad bought the last 2 2100b's. I'm so pissed.

howard...thanks for posting this, i was thinking of the exact same cob/driver setup so curious to see how it's working for you, any updates?

i'm planning on running 4 36v cobs off the hlg-240-c2100a, still deciding between the 3590s and the 3070s,just a few questions if anyone could help:

from my noob understanding, running 4 cobs @ 2.1 or 1.7 would give the appropriate voltage and power to each cob to obtain most lum/w and still put enough juice out on the cobs, the c1050 and 1400 models that a lot of people used seems to be underutilizing the lights, unless im mistaken?

is there a rule for how many cobs you can run on these 2.1 or 1.7 drivers? i see most people running 4 in serial, could the same be done for 3, or theoretically 2 for discussion's sake?
