DSCN1663.jpgI dropped this and the ceramic piece that surrounds the actual socket shattered. The light will be hanging vertically if it matterrs.

I figured it was there for a reason, I just wasn't exactly sure what that reason was. I didn't know you could get these at lowes, I bought this cord at my local grow shop for $12 I think.

I have never seen a socket like this, nor have I dealt with such high wattage bulbs. I did not think lowes would carry something quite like this.

I would Deff NOT use the socket, Obviously it prob will work wich i'm sure you have tried, wich is why you are asking, 100% Fire Hazard!

It will work but if you touch the exposed mogul that the ceramic was covering then you gonna be in for a shock

I would just order a new one ( lowes does not sell those mogul sockets ) they sell the stander ones

You can go to a small electrical shop ( ones that go around doing residential work ) and get a mogul socket from them if you cant order one

No, I didn't try it. I am pretty sure it would work, none of the wiring was damaged. I just was not sure what that ceramic around the socket was for. I was hoping it was just to prevent someone from touching a hot socket, but I see how it could be a BIG hazard now. I don't know much about electricity and I try not to assume much. That's why I asked!

Thanks for all of your quick responses.

I will pick a new one up at my local grow shop tomorrow. I am just bummed that I have to hold up progress until the morning.

If there is a menards near by they have them. I've seen them at lowes before but it's not on their website.

the ceramic is there for insulation. Grab some electrical tape and tape it up so there is no exposed metal. I would recommend getting a different socket but that one is salvageable.
