Cutting fan leaves

i just read on here in a thread about doubling yield.
if done right topping and trimming leaves can increase the branches therefor producing more buds ***IF DONE RIGHT
ok, so it said to top the plant after the 4th node.
and then trim the fan leaves ON THE MAIN STEM ONLY in a stair step pattern starting from the bottom. to explain this better start with the first one, either left or right and clip it near the base, and then go to the opposite one above it and clip it etc etc. this should take exactly half of the fan leaves on the MAIN STEM ONLY
this really can help if your outdoors and trying to have smaller plants with the same or more yield. they get bushier instead of taller
good luck
I thought that may have been a joke at first, but then I saw the work put into the post from the bolding, italics, and underlining, so you must be pretty damned serious. But all that is just bullshit. Do that and you're reducing yield. Less leaves=less yield. If you remove a few, it wont be a problem, but once you remove X amount you have reduced your yield, and can only go further into the hole by removing more.

4 leaves is a few
there are little new possible leaf sprouts and that will eventually turn into branches in the node between the main seam and the stem of the fanleafs. i forgot the sciency term for this when those fan leafs are cut and the plant is topped that stimulates the plant to grow another branch

theyre not mine. from another thread
the first one is topped with out doing the staircase trimming
the second one is with doing stair case trimming and topping
this picture was taken two weeks after both plants were trimmed and topped, im not sure how long they are into flowering total. like i said not mine
obviously it does SOMTHING

You are talking about axiliary branches, lateral buds, etc. Lots of different names for them. Removing fan leaves wont allow them to automatically go from auxiliary branches to primary branches. The only way they do that is to cut off the flow of auxins that are created in the apical meristem either by topping, fimming, or lst'ing. Auxins aren't created in fan leaves, so removing fan leaves isn't going to allow more lat branching.

I have no clue whats really going on in those pictures because the first one is so small. And even if I could see what was going on, its only two plants. That doesn't mean anything when it comes to a scientific study. Two plants are too small of a sample size.

Just go with what mother nature intended. She put those fan leaves there for a reason. More fan leaves=more growth=greater chance of reproducing, and well MJ's main goal in life is to reproduce, so I think she knows what she's doing without us convincing ourselves we've outsmarted mother nature by coming up with some cockey mamie idea to boost yield.

Haha. Im not trying to bust anyones balls. I just want people to use their own intuition and common sense, and do some research outside of marijuana forums. Too many people read some forum hype and run with instead of stopping and thinking for themselves. Dont be afraid to question forum hype people! If you think something is off, then get out there and do real research into what drives a plant. I promise you, that you will learn a whole lot more from a book about botany, or even a garden forum, instead of visiting a marijuana forum where myths tend to live forever.

I prune like crazy and even prune my side branches, Girls love it :) I would never let them keep all their fan leaves or the room would be a 4x4 mold house. Although, I don't just prune the fan leaves off, I also cut the branches that would grow out of where the fan leaves are.

If you have problems with mold, then get a dehumidifier instead of removing fan leaves.

so I tossed 20 seeds down yesterday. my yard has been great producing seedlings from toss aways...will wait for them to come up. Gonna keep em low prolly will top or fim early on and LST thru out. will selectively mangle said plants when they get to the size I want them.....pretty much same thing I did here jus opposite order. I cant see cutting fan leaves during flowering tho...Never said I believed in that

...if my leaves are not getting any light, I chop them off. I lollipop mine @ week 2-3, and remove any lightless leaves @ week 4-6 ....I yield over a pound per 600 watt HPS, you can view my journal in my sig for pics.

God, that video is so stupid. "Taking off these big fan leaves takes more of the goody juice to the buds." "They're big fat nasty leaves." "Its good for the plants."

This guy obviously knows nothing about basic botany. Yeah, why would I ever want leaves on my plants. This guys a moron. Watching the whole video make me feel dumb.

you a funny man. i know what i do works great. done both ways and this way really fattens up the buds.. where is your experience and knowledgeable video then if you know so much... you a funny funny little boy who needs to take an agriculture class so you know a few thing about prunning, topping, and thinning out plants.. growing in general

Hi people, just joined here, but I have to agree that taking off the LARGER fan leaves in the final 2-4 weeks DOES help the buds grow larger.
In fact, I will be posting pics of mine (almost ready to harvest) shortly.

From Jorge Cervantes' book:

Leave leaves alone! Leaf removal is not pruning, it's hacking up a healthy plant. Ill-informed growers believe that removing large shade leaves makes plants more productive because it supplies more light to smaller leaves and growing tips. Wrong! This is bad gardening! Plants need all their leaves to produce the maximum amount of chlorophyll and food. Removing leaves slows chlorophyll production, stresses a plant and stunts growth.
